Leonard W. Basinger was born 7 Feb 1917 in Cole Township, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Julius Slack & Pearl Irene Johnson Basinger. Leonard registered for the military draft 27 Feb 1942 in Sebastian Co., Ar. He states he has completed 4 years of high school and is a miner. He became a member of the US Army. Pvt Basinger was attached to the CO. B 106th ENG BN. While in training at Camp Pickett, Va. Pvt. Basinger was admitted to Camp Pickett Hospital, Blackstone, Virginia in August 1942. He died August 30, 1942, age 25. No cause is given on the hospital records. His final resting place is at Mountain View Cemetery, Hackett, Sebastian Co., Ar. Camp Pickett Hospital, Va.
