John Tipton Alford, Jr. 1921 - 1943
John "Jack" Tipton Alford, Jr. was born 14 May 1921 in Kansas, the son of
John Tipton Sr. & Lyla Lloyd Alford. On 18 Jul 1943 Jack married
Wanda J Gassaway in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.
Jack joined the Army Air Corps, enlisting 3 Feb 1942. He states
he completed 2 yrs of college and his civil occupatio is sales Clerk. He was assigned
to the 391st Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 34th Bombardment Group .
On 16 Aug 1943, one month after his marriage, Sergeant Alford was a crew member
aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-24D Liberator #42-40368, Blythe Army Air Base, California.
He was killed when his plane crashed eight miles north of Palm Springs, California.
Sgt. Alford was buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California
