George was born July 25, 1928 in Arkansas to William Earl & Ocie Gertrude Prince Thompson. December 1946 he married Nora Thompson. They divorced June 13, 1949 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. (there are 2 dates found for their marriage and divorce). January 26, 1963 he married Chessie Udell Matlock in Sebastian Co., Ar.

George H. Thompson, 86, of Sugarloaf Lake, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born July 25,1928 in Fort Smith, Arkansas the son of the late William Earl Thompson and Ocie G. Thompson (Prince). He was a member of the National Guard 39 MP Company, 1st Cav. Division -5th Cav Regiment in the Korean War and National Guard 937 Field Artillery, former owner of United Machinery Sharp-It-Shop, former manager of Mity Mite Mortors, Retired Line Supervisor of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Fort Smith, owner of George's Sales and Service and one of the original founders and life long member of Sugarloaf - Slaytonville Volunteer Fire Department. George loved to talk with people and tell stories about the old days, he was a walking history book of Fort Smith, and much of the area around it. George was preceded in death by his wife, Chessie. Survivors include his son George H. Thompson Jr. of Sugarloaf Lake and one granddaughter, Ericka Lynn Shelly/Thompson of Alma. Graveside side service will be held Thursday,1:00 p.m. March 26,2015 at U.S. National Cemetery with Military Honors. Viewing will be Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family receiving friends, 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Fort Smith.
