Colonial Hospital and Clinic
Colonial Hospital at 1500 Dodson Avenue began as a small, private hospital staffed
by two physicians, Doctors Keck and Rose, who made a specialty out of treating area coal miners. When the hospital closed in 1953,
the building became the new home of the Holt-Krock Clinic. Dr. Charles Holt came to Fort Smith in 1908 and established the Holt Clinic in 1921.
He created quite a stir when he, along with a few other local physicians, entered into pre-paid contracts to serve coal miners and
employees of some other industries - a trend in managed care ahead of it's time.
Dr. Holt was joined by Dr. Fred Krock in 1928, and the clinic grew to be the largest in western Arkansas.
