Dr. Norman B. Griffith was born in 1862, in Charleston, Arkansas to Dr. George Theodore and Georgette Elizabeth (Smith)
Griffith.
He attended high school and college at Cane Hill, Arkansas, where he graduated in 1885. He then attended Little Rock Medical College and completed
his college in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Griffith married Laura Mae Moore who died Jan. 1892. She was the daughter-in-law of
Dr. George Theodore and Georgette Elizabeth (Smith) Griffith; and the mother to 3 daughters: Anna Georgette, Marguerite Aile, and Myrtle. Dr. Griffith married again to a woman named Belle Seaney.
From this union, there came 5 children: Modean, Herman Rhodes, Mary, John Thomas and Ruth.
Dr. Griffith rode horseback to care for his patients and also used a buggy for time to time. He practice encompassed western Arkansas
and eastern Oklahoma. He had his main office in Enterprise, but went as far as Fort Coffee, Oklahoma.
He enjoyed fishing and farming. One note..he used shoes to place on his horse's hooves when crossing the the Poteau River which was iced over.
He was know for his treatment of pneumonia and thypoid patients and many a doctor referred him their patients. He was the great uncle of
Walter Newman of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
