Dr. Thomas Davenport

Dr. Thomas Davenport of Witcherville, Sebastian Co., Arkansas died August 20, 1887 in Greenwood, Arkansas. He was a
charter member of Sebastian County Medical Society and the father of Dr. Edgar Davenport. He was the husband of Louisa
(Huller) Davenport and were of English descent. He was the father of Dora Davenport(born in Louisiana), Pickin L
(born in Louisiana, and Jessie(born in Arkansas)=but there were 7 children. When the first Mrs. Davenport died (1880),
he married Mattie Lewis on the 5 day of December 1880. Dr. Davenport also served for a brief time with the Confederate
Army as he served as a surgeon.
He was one of 9 doctors who attended the 1st meeting of the Sebastian Coutny Medical Society in 1874 at Greenwood, Arkansas.
Dr. Davenport was also an eye witness in the trial of A.B. Martin(town marshall) of Salem(now Witcherville), Arkansas for the
shooting of Dick Hawthorne in 1887.
