(Physicians and Medicine in Crawford and Sebastian Counties, Ark. 1817-1976 by Amelia Martin)
A. C. Christian was shown in the 1860 Sebastian County Census as a resident of Fort Smith, a physician,
32 years old, born in Alabama. Living in his house were Mary Christian 16, born in Arkansas, and Matilda Smart 13,
also born in Arkansas.

Dr A. C. Christian above had the full name of Amaziah C. Christian. He was born about 1828 in Madison County,
Alabama. In 1830 there are 3 families with the surname of Christian living in Marion County Alabama, only one with a male
child 0-5 yrs of age, Edward Christian. I do not know if this is A.C.'s father or not.
On the 1850 Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama census, Amezia C. Christian is living in what appears to be a
boarding house, age 22, born in Alabama. He is a merchant's clerk.
As is stated above by Mrs. Martin, Dr. A. C. Christian is on the 1860 Sebastian County Arkansas census as A. C. Christian
age 32, a physician and he was born in Alabama. Although he is 32 years of age Mary Christian who appears to be his
spouse is only 16 years old. Matilda Smoot listed in their household, age 13 and born in Arkansas is a
sister of Mary. The marriage of Dr. Christian and Mary Smoot is shown on the U.S. and International Marriage
Records 1560-1900.
Mary Ellen Smoot, the wife of Dr. Christian, was the daughter of Ira Smoot from the 1850 census of Sevier County,
Arkansas as A. C. Christian is mentioned in Mr. Smoot's estate later. Up until 1852 Mr. Smoot is listed in Sevier County then in
1852 he is a surveyor in Crawford County, Arkansas. He died July 1859 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.

This Dr. A. C. Christian should not be confused with another A. C. Christian who fought in the civil war in Alabama.
