Dr. Elmer Joseph Brown

Dr. Elmer Joseph Brown, of Mansfield, Arkansas, died October 7, 1969, at Sparks Memorial Hospital(now called Sparks Regional Medical Center),
in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Dr. Brown was born in Lucan, Arkansas in 1883. He was the brother of Dr. John Royston Brown.
He was educated at Scott County, Arkansas school and later graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical Department in May 1910.
The young doctor did his preceptorship under the late Dr. W.J. Brandon, who lived in Dayton(Sebastian County), Arkansas, between 1907-1908.
Dr. Brown was a family practice/surgeon doctor and he practiced medicine in Sebastian and Scott counties, of Arkansas.
Dr. Brown was a member of the Sebastian County Medical Society, the Scott County Medical Society, the Arkansas Medical Society and
was a 50 year member. He was also a member of the American Medical Association.
In the "Journal of Arkansas Medical Society", Dr. Brown was reported to have delivered a male baby in rural Logan County, during a snow and ice
storm - where the electrical power had failed(JAMS, 1968). It was reported the baby was born at 4:00a.m., under the flood of flashlights held for
the good doctor to see.
Dr. Elmer J. Brown is survived by his beloved wife: Elizabeth Brown, of the home; two daughters; his brother: Dr. J.R. Brown,
of Texarkana, Arkansas; a sister; two precious grandchildren(e grandchild is the wife of Dr. John Parta.); and many, many friends and
former patients.
Dr. Brown was laid to rest at Coop Prairie Cemetery in Mansfield, Arkansas.
