WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, S.M. Whitington do solemnly swear that I am the widow of Kinion Whitington who served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Company (blank) in Col. Dawson's 19th Regiment of Infy. Vols. from the State of Arkansas, that said soldier enlisted in said service in 1864 and died in this service on April 26, 1864; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that my said husband died before the close of the war on April 26, 1864 and that I have not since re-married, so help me God.

We, the undersigned, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined the application of the within named (blank) for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is the widow of a Confederate soldier, is also in indigent circumstances, and that her claim is as we (illegible) believe just, and that she should therefore be allowed $100.00 pension.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Co. Clerk within and for the County of Sevier and State of Arkansas Geo. B. Parker, citizen of Sevier Co. whom I certify to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they were each personally, well acquainted with Kenion Whittington, husband of the applicant, Mrs. S.M. Whittington, and knew him 4 years, respectively.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company 19 Regiment of Col. Dawson. That as such soldier he served from 1862 to 1864. That he died while in such service, and did not desert the same. That to the best of our knowledge, all property now owned by his wife is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That his wife is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That I have no interest in this claim.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Clerk Circuit Court within and for the County of Scott and State of Ark., W.B. Brazil, a citizen of Scott Co., Ark., whom I certify to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he is personally, well acquainted with applicant Mrs. S.M. Whitington and have known her for about 60 years, that I knew her deceased husband Kinion Whitington in his lifetime, having known him for about 20 years prior to his death.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company (blank) in 19th Regiment of Ark. Infty. Vols. That he died in such service as I am informed and believe and did not desert the same. That said widow is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That she is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of old age and poor health and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of her own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of my knowledge, all property now owned by her is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel.) That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That I have no interest in this claim.
That I knew the soldier Kenion Whitington for upwards of about 20 years before the commencement of the war. During the war I remember it was the general understanding among his neighbors and friends that he was in the war and I saw his son before the close of the war and his son told me that his father died in the army and I have never had any reason to doubt the statement.

Whitington, widow of Kinion Whitington, deceased and have known her (blank) years, respectively.
That she is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas.
