Pictured above are my husband's grandparents, James Madison & Ethel Sarah (Moore) Shackelford. They lived in Abbott, Scott County, Arkansas. They were the parents of my father-in-law, Karl Wayne Shackelford.

James Madison was born 15 Jan 1882 in Prentiss County, Mississippi, son of Lenoard Wade and Matilda Catherine (Stacy) Shackelford. He died 23 Dec 1963 at Abbott, Scott County, Arkansas and is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Ethel Sarah was born 19 Mar 1892 in the Cornish community of Sebastian County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of James D. and Mary Elizabeth (McCendon) Moore. Ethel died 1 Dec 1989 at Greenwood, Sebastian County, Arkansas and is buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Abbott. Ethel Moore and James Shackelford were married 6 Aug 1911 at Greenwood. Ethel's obituary reads:

"Sarah Ethel Shackelford, 97, Abbott, died Friday, December 1, 1989 in a Greenwood nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Abbott Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Monday in Abbott Baptist Church with interment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home. She is survived by two daughters, Mabel Winford of Greenwood and Frances Casey of Abbott; a son, Karl Wayne Shackelford of Abbott; [blank] grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren."
