I noticed on a census map from S-K Publications 1840 & 1850 that there was a
township named Oliver and also one named Brawley in Scott county. Can anyone
tell me how these townships were named and why they are no longer in existence?
Thank you.

Samuel E. EDENS married Margaret C. GUESS 20 Feb. 1878 in Sebastian Co, AR. They
are found with son William in Scott Co. in 1880. Nothing further has been found on
Margaret, although Samuel had three more sons. Family stats are:
Samuel E. EDENS, b. Feb. 1859 in TN
Margaret C. Guess EDENS, b. about 1862 in MO
William Wiley EDENS, b. July 1879 AR; m Mahaley Jane HANEY
Samuel Alexander Andrew EDENS, b 16 Sep. 1882 AR; m. Effie Ola MARTIN
James A. EDENS, b. about 1884 AR
Fred A. EDENS, b 1894 in Keota OK; m Myrtle CRAWFORD
Except for our direct ancestor Samuel Alexander EDENS, we have been unable to find
much information on his brothers. Fred A. EDENS joined the military in 1918; he was
gassed in France and discharged as 100 per cent disabled in 1920. Nothing else has
been found on him. I would like to find his wife Myrtle CRAWFORD EDENS and any children
they might have had. Myrtle has not yet been found on the 1920 census.
James A. EDENS may have married a Mary/Maggie and be buried in the Little San Bois
Cemetery in Haskell Co. OK. The elder Samuel married a woman about 1905 whose name was
L. Caroline (last name unknown.) She had granddaughters named Lora and Jewel BUCK and
Audra SHARP. Samuel and Caroline died in 1918.
Margaret C. GUESS EDENS was the daughter of Samuel E. GUESS, who was born about 1825
in KY. Her siblings were Mary Ann, Miles L., William R., and Manda Jane. All the GUESS
children were born in MO 1854 through 1865. The family was in Carroll Co. AR in 1870,
in Scott Co. in 1880. Any help finding more information on these people will be appreciated.

In Nov. of 1884, Frank BLYTHE and Josh CROOK had been arrested in MO and
were taken to Waldron, AR, according to newspaper accounts. Frank
somehow got off, but Josh CROOK, according to family lore went to jail.
According to the newspaper account, the charge was "assault with intent
to kill one MCCUTCHEN, on the 15th of July last by firing promiscuously
into his house"...Article dated Nov. 29, 1884, Arkansas Gazette.
We have lost Joshua CROOK after that newspaper article. Family lore
says he did time and died in prison. Joshua CROOK was my Great
Grandmother's brother so I am very interested as to what happened to
him. I would very much appreciate any info you could give me either
specifically about him or about the legal system and how it worked in

I am looking for information on R.E. BLYE who is in the Blackfork area of
Scott County in the 1890's. I believe him to be Robert Edward BLYE, my
gg-grandfather. His daughter Dora Belle BLYE married William Parks STRIPLING
of Blackfork in 1894 and I believe that his daughters Catherine BLYE (md J.W. GRISSOM)
and Mary BLYE (md F.B. BROOKS) are the ones listed in Marriage book B.
Robert married Vicey Angeline BYNUM in 1875 in Pope county, AR. They also had
a son Robert Andrew BLYE born around 1874-75. Several other children were
born later. I have their names and birthdates available.
I also believe he may have been a BLYTHE and changed the spelling of his name
to BLYE, and that he may have moved his family to the Blackfork area due to
relatives residing there. I would like to be able to connect him with his
parents and siblings.
He was living in Whitefield, Haskell county, OK on the 1900 census. And my
grandfather, Dora's son, grew up in his home in OK.

I am searching for information on any and all of the surnames listed as they are
directly connected to my husband's family. Of course GIBSON is where I am trying
to focus my attention with this post, just hoping some of the names might connect.
Pope Co., Yell Co., and Scott Co., are where some of the families lived at different
times. This line of GIBSONs, I am told by my 82 year old Father-in Law, moved to AR
from TN and later into OK, in what was then Indian Territory, later Muskogee Co.
I am sure migrated through other counties on the way. These are the names of the
GIBSON's I have some knowledge of: Father, John B. GIBSON b. Waldron, AR; Mother,
Sarah EDDY b.22 Aug 1865, Billings, MO; Sons, Jerry, Carl, George, Clarence, Clem,
and James Thomas (my husband's Grandfather) Daughters, Becky, Bertha, and Betty.
The other surnames are linked through marriages. My "stonewall" is the Father, Mother,
and sibling of John B. GIBSON. Some family members said they thought both their
Grandmother and GGrandmother had the same name, which I found hard to believe.
However, John B. was married to Sarah EDDY 19 August 1883, her parents were Mitchell
EDDY and Eliza JENKINS. I recently found Sarah Catharine EDDY married to W. H. GIBSON
in the KY marriage search of Lincoln Co. 18 March 1863, but havent located names of
their children or siblings. Any and all help will be most appreciated, as I havent found
the right size of a hammer to get through this wall.

I am looking for information on the 1860 Scott County marriage of Jefferson
PENNINGTON, 22, and a woman by the first name of Julia, 22. We think that
after Julia's first husband, Russell MOTT Sr., passed away that she might
have married a PENNINGTON. The 1880 Scott County census shows a Russell
A., a Nancy and a John W. as living in the Julia A. PENNINGTON household.
We think that the last names of Russell, Nancy and John should have been
listed as MOTT, since these are the names along with correct ages of
Julia's son, daughter-in-law and grandson. Also, on the 1860 Scott County
census, Julia's sons, Caleb and Andrew (Russell A.) MOTT, are shown as living
in the Polly PENNINGTON household. Does anyone out there have any information
on the possible connection between the MOTTs and the PENNINGTONs? We are willing
to share info and look forward to corresponding with those who might have possible links.
