I am looking for the parents of John SCANTLIN. He was 16 in the 1870 Scott Co census. He lived with Martha AKES. Was there a school in the Hickman township? He married Rilda ROACH around 1876 or 1877. It showed he was a domestic servant/school and he had a sister named Mary J. age 10 who was also in school. Would there be any records of children in school? John SCANTLING was b.1852 or 1854. He died 10 Nov 1910 and is buried in Lick Creek Cemetery, Logan Co. Who was Martha AKES?

Junior Metcalf October 29 2000
My Scott County ancestors were Thomas J. METCALF born 1820 in TN and wife Elizabeth born 1822 in TN. They lived in Texas from 1848, possibly before, until 1869 when they moved to Scott County, Arkansas. They had 12 children, all born in Texas: Francis Marion, William H. (Ham), Andrew Jackson, Mary, George Washington, Martha, Nancy, Thomas J., Joseph Anderson (Joe), James Monroe, Samuel Houston (Sam), and Henry Howard. One of their children, George Washington, was born in Harrison County, TX and this is where they were living when they migrated from Texas to Scott Co, Arkansas. I have not found them listed on the Texas census or any Other records in Texas. Thomas and Elizabeth METCALF homesteaded land in the Packsaddle Community of Scott County and are listed on the 1870 census, Tumbleston Township, #129/130. I am searching for the parents of Thomas and Elizabeth METCALF and for Elizabeth's maiden name. Joseph Anderson (Joe), my great grandfather, was born in Waco, McLennan Co., TX. He was married 3 times, first to Mollie (HUTTO) METCALF 24 Jul 1889, second to Nellie CATING 18 Jul 1900,and third to Annie CANTRELL 14 Feb 1918. Joesph and Annie moved to Lake City, Craighead Co, AR. He died there 17 Sep 1921. I am descended from his first marriage to Mollie (HUTTO) METCALF. I would like to correspond with anyone from the HUTTO, CATING or CANTRELL families who have connections or information to share. Please contact me at PO Box 13, Huntington, AR 72940 or phone (501) 928-5714.

Looking for information on David Crockett RAMSEY, 1808-1899. Married second Elizabeth ENGLISH (first wife unknown). They were in Scott County, AR in 1860 census and Sebastian County in 1870. David and Elizabeth's dau Millie, b Dec 6, 1860, married my ggf Samuel Howard KENNINGTON, b Feb 14, 1859, probably in Bowie County, TX. Sam may have been son of William E. KENNINGTON and Susan A. POER who were in Bowie County 1840's-1860's although William disappeared before 1860; Susan died 1869. Some oral family history suggests Sam may instead have been son of one of William E. and Susan's daughters and a man named TIDWELL but was raised by his "Uncle Bill" KENNINGTON. I am guessing Uncle Bill was William E. and Susan's son William R. KENNINGTON, in Yell County, AR in 1870 census (age 34 or 39, b SC) with wife Mary E.J., 21, b TX, and dau Willie F., 1, b AR. If he was and did indeed raise Sam, the proximity might explain how and where Sam met and married Millie abt 1878. They and at least two other RAMSEY siblings went to Clay County, TX 1878-1879 and later were in neighboring Montague County. Would love to find a marriage record for Sam and Millie in Yell, Scott, or Sebastian Counties. Please help if you can.

Looking for following surnames: BUNTEN, McKEE, MORRIS, GOODSON, BRANHAM, THOMAS, COOK, HAWKINS, ABBOTT. James BUNTEN was on 1910 Scott Co. census with wife Laura (ABBOTT), step-daughter Maude ABBOTT, sons John C. BUNTEN, William Claude BUNTEN. Maude ABBOTT, I believe married a GRIGSBEE. James BUNTEN disappeared. Would love to find out what happened to him. That line came to a dead end. Sarah Elizabeth GOODSON was born in Georgia and married Jessie THOMAS in Carroll County, Georgia 1850. She later married a BRANHAM and had daughter Laura "Mindy" BRANHAM. Laura married first a COOK and then an ABBOTT and later married James BUNTEN. She had a brother, Columbus BRANHAM. Sarah Elizabeth married third a HAWKINS. I am told he is buried in Scott County. Some of our BUNTEN family still live in Waldron, Ark.
