JAMES AND KATIE NEWMAN
Pictured above are my great-grandparents, James "Jim" and Katie (Ryburn) Newman. Jim was born 7 Aug 1873 in Scott County, Arkansas. His parents were Frederick (Nieman) Newman and Nancy Ann (Tull) Newman. Nancy and Frederick lived in the Tate community in Scott County and had two sons: William Riley Newman, born 1872 and James M. "Jim", born 1873. Their father Frederick died in March 1875. Shortly after his death Nancy Ann along with their two young sons moved to Hon, Arkansas, also in Scott County. At age 23 J.M. Newman of Poteau (Hon) married Miss Katie Mae Ryburn, age 16, of Cauthron on 24 July 1898. Katie was born 7 Dec 1881, daughter of John Henry and Belle (Collins) Ryburn. The Newman family is listed on the Scott County census in Hon Township in 1900, 1910 and 1920. Their children were listed on these census records as: Luster, born c1899; Lillie, born c1901; Buford, born c1902; Annie, born c1904, Fannie, born c1907; Retha Belle, born c1910; Burley, born c1913; Orvel, born c1914 and Ocie, born c1920. Later a son Willie was born in 1922 and a son Bryant born in 1924. Katie Mae Newman died 11 Dec 1955 and James M. Newman died 12 Feb 1966. Both are buried in Lower Center Point Cemetery at Hon. Also buried there are many of their children.
