Martha Sarah Ann McLain was born in North Carolina c1843, a daughter of John Lenore and Hanna Rita (Club) McLain. The McLain family came to Yell County, Arkansas prior to 1860. Martha Sarah Ann McLain married George W. McClain in Conway County, Arkansas on 3 August 1865. George was born in Scott County in 1845 and was a Union soldier in the Civil War. Though their last names were similar, they were not related. George and Martha are listed on the 1870 Scott County census and left here in the late 1870's to be near Martha's family in Yell County. By 1900 George and Martha and their family were in Hot Springs, Arkansas where he died on 4 May 1905. Martha later moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she died in 1928.
