J.J. Houston, Pvt., Co. C, 18 Battalion Mississippi Cavalry, appears on Company Muster Roll of the organization
named above Nov. 7, 1863 to June 30, 1864. Roll dated Apl. 18, 1864, Holly Springs, by C.T. Smith, for the war. Pay
due from enlistment. Present.

Application for Pension

County of Scott
I, Isaac J. Houston, do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the
Confederate States, being a member of 18th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment of Company "C" from the State of
Mississippi or a member of the crew of the ship called [blank]; that I was honorably discharged (paroled or
released) from such service on or about the 11th day of May 1865 and did not desert the same; that I am now
and for the past twelve months have been a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my
wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess
of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel); nor has either of us conveyed title
to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity,
pension or wages for any services, the emolument of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated
to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life (or am totally blind) and that on account of age
and disability and having had my arm broken in 2 places, I am incapacitated to perform manual labor, or of age,
accident or disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so
help me God.

application of the within named Isaac J. Houston for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State
of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant, Isaac
J. Houston, a wounded Confederate soldier is in indigent circumstances, and wholly or partially incapacitated for
manual labor, and that his claim is just, and that he should be allowed $75.00 pension.

EVIDENCE OF PHYSICIAN
State of Arkansas
County of Scott
I, E.S. Campbell, a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I
am personally well acquainted with Isaac J. Houston of Hon, Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the
Statutes of Arkansas. That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition and find (State
description and character of wound) Fracture of left arm and forearm. (Physical condition and to what cause is
his incapacity for manual labor attributable.) His physical condition is not good. His arm is stiff in elbow joint
and is so weak in shoulder and wrist as to be allmost useless. He also has chronic rheumatism and that said
disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. He is temperate and a man of good
habits.
Extent of disability at least 3/4 as compared to a able bodied man.

State of Arkansas, two citizens of Scott County, Ark. whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of
confidence, who, being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with applicant Isaac
J. Houston and have known him 3 & 4 years, respectively. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months
a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by him and his wife,
together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That neither he nor
his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office,
in excess of $150 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.

2 years. That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not desert the same.

APPLICATION FOR INCREASE OF PENSION

I, I.J. Houston do solemnly swear that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been a bona fide resident
of this State; that I am now drawing a pension as an ex-Confederate soldier, under an Act of the General
Assembly of 1901, having made my original application from the county of Scott; that I am still in indigent
circumstances; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or
personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household
good and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension,
and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the
emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in
any of the ordinary avocations of life; that my disability has increased, and I am less able to perform
manual labor than when my original application was made by reason of making said application for increase is
that I have a broken leg and are disabled to do any manual labor and I hereby make application for an increase
of pension under Act of the General Assembly of 1907.

application of the within named I.J. Houston for increase of pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the
State of Arkansas, approved March 9, 1907, and the proof in support of same and find that said applicant is
less able to perform manual labor than he was at the time a pension was granted him, and that he is entitled
to have the same increased to $100.00 Dollars.

I, Theo Money, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Ex-officio County Clerk within and for the County and State
aforesaid, do certify that the name of Isaac J. Houston appears on the Pension Rolls of Scott County,
Arkansas, as a Confederate Pensioner; that the said Isaac J. Houston died on the 18th day of January,
1929, leaving no widow surviving, and that the last pension warrant received by the said Isaac J.
Houston was dated Dec. 31, 1928. I further certify that Thomas J. Speaks is the duly appointed, qualified
and acting Administrator of the estate of the said Isaac J. Houston and is entitled to receive the pro
rata share of the pension due the said deceased at the time of his death. In Testimony Whereof I hereunto
set my hand and affix the seal of said court, this the 19th day of January, 1929.
