APPLICATION FOR PENSION

STATE OF ARKANSAS}
County of Scott}
I, Seaborn Harrell do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Co. "I" commanded by Capt. B.R. Matthews, as 2nd Lieut. in Col. Dockery's 19th Regiment Infantry Vols. from the State of Arkansas; that I was honorably discharged from such service first on or about the 4th day of June 1862, and afterwards reinlisting and serving and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result of rheumatism contracted in the service which has caused me considerable suffering at times during the whole time since the war to the present time - and from advanced age and feeble health and debilitated physical condition in consequence thereof, my age now being 82 years and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

This is to certify that Second Lieut. Seaborn Harrell of Company I of the 19th Regt. Ark. Infantry Vols. has not drawn any pay for his service as Second Lieut. in said company of said Regiment from the Quarter Master Department of this Regiment, or this Brigade. No funds now being in the hands of the A. Q. Masters of the Army in consequence of all monies being ordered to the war[?] any Quarter Master to whom he may present his account is authorized to pay the same, to which he is justly entitled as set forth in his pay account.

EVIDENCE OF PHYSICIAN

I, C.A. Atkins, a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with Seaborn Harrell of Gipson, Scott Co., Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition and find: State description and character of disease or disability: He is badly ruptured in Epigastrium, has chronic congestion of the liver, catarrh of the right middle ear. Heart irregular due to liver trouble stated above.
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable: He is totally unable to perform any part of manual labor due to age & diseases which. Urine 10 per cent pus and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in: He has no disipation or bad habits.
Extent of disability: Totally unable to take care of himself so far as labor is concerned.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, William J. Harrell a citizen of Gipson, Arkansas, whom I certify to be credible person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he is personally well acquainted with applican Seaborn Harrell and have known him 60 years.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company I, 19 Regiment of Arkansas. That as such soldier he served from 1862 to 1864. He was not wounded. That this information is derived from the following sources: That I served with him in same Co. and Regiment.
That, to the best of my knowledge, all property now owned by him is not worth exceeding $100. That he is wholly incapacitated for manual labor, and that I have no interest in this claim. Except that I am the son of applicant.

WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, Caroline Harrell, do solemnly swear that I am the widow of Seaborn Harrell who served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Co. "I" in Col. Dockery's 19th Regiment of Infty. Vols. from the State of Arkansas; that he was honorably discharged from such service on or about the 4th day of June 1862 and afterwards re-enlisting and serving and did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that my said husband died since the close of the war, on the 10th day of July A.D. 1901 and that I have not since re-married, so help me God.

We, the undersigned, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined the application of the within named Caroline Harrell for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is the widow of a Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances, and that her claim is just, and that she should be allowed $50.00 pension.
