Samuel Wells was born February 1840, according to the 1900 Scott County census where he was listed in Johnson Township. The exact date of his death is not known but believed to be about 1906. Buried a few feet away is James Hartley. No information other than their names are on the stones. These stones are located about 3/4 mile north of the Scott-Polk County line alongside U.S. Highway 71 on National Forest land. Contributed by Janice Rogers.
