We, E.D. Yandell, Judge of the County Court of Scott County, L.P. Fuller Sheriff and T.M. Duncan Clerk, sitting as a Pension Board for Scott County, do certify that we have examined
the application of the within named Cornelius Burns for pension, under act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved April 1, 1891, and the proof in support of
same, and find that said applicant is a wounded Confederate soldier, is in indigent circumstances and partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that his claim is just, and that
he should be allowed a pension. And we further certify that we believe said soldier is entitled to the sum of Thirty five Dollrs per annum and said amount is hereby allowed.

APPLICATION FOR CONFEDERATE PENSION
STATE OF ARKANSAS}

To the Honorable County Court of Scott County:
The undersigned applicant for pension under an act of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, approved April 1, 1891, and amendments thereto, being duly sworn according to
law, states that he is the identical Cornelius Burns who enlisted and was enrolled on the [blank] day of May 1862 in Company "I" of the 38th Regiment of Georgia Vols. commanded by
[blank] in the services of the Confederate States of America, or the State of Arkansas. That while a member of the said Company and Regiment in said srvice, and in the line of
his duty at Knox Junction, near Frederick City in the State of Maryland on or about the 9th day of July 1864. He received a gun shot wound in the right side, ball struck at about the
lower rib ranging a little downward coming out at right of backbone on right side.
That by reason of said wound he has ever since suffered and his back is weak and sometimes is scaresly able to get around and is now in indigent circumstances, without means of
support, and is partially incapacitated for manual labor. That he is a bona fide citizen of the State of Arkansas, and has resided in said State for mor than twelve months immediately
preceeding this application. That he is not receiving aid from the State of Arkansas, from the United States nor from any other State, for injuries received in the war between the
States under any Statute providing for the relief of the maimed and blind soldiers of the States.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Clerk Circuit Court within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, D.A. Edwards and C.H. Bell,
citizens of Waldron, Scott Co., Ark., whom I certify to be credible persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally,
well acquainted with the applicant Cornelius Burns and have known him 10 years.
That the material facts set forth in his application for pension are true. That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonged to Company "I" 38th Regiment of Ga. Vols.
That he was wounded in said service at Knox Junction, near Frederick City, Maryland.
That this information we derive from the following sources: From our long acquaintance with soldier and seeing him often, and hearing him complain of his wounds
received in the aforesaid service and knowing him to be partially disabled from performing manual labor most of the time because of said wounds as we are
informed and believe.
That he is partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that we have no interest in this claim.

EVIDENCE OF PHYSICIAN

I, Cheves Bevill, a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with Cornelius
Burns of Waldron, Scott Co., Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his wound and find: State description and character of wound (state fully) Wound, in right side, causing a
depression of viles and thereby it interferes with respiration, etc.
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable (state fully) The bullet wound in right side as above stated.
Financial condition (amount of property &c) Two hundred and thirty dollars - $230.00
Means of support (How he makes living &c) By farming and some little masonry.
Extent of disability: I think, from the appearance, nature and extent of the wound, that, he must be disabled one third of his ability to work.
