APPLICATION FOR PENSION

I, Wiley P. Brown do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Company "G" commanded by Capt. Russell in Col. Alexander's
Regiment of Cav. Vols. from the State of Texas; that I was honorably discharged on account of disability from such service on or about the [blank] day of Aug. or Sept. 1862, and
did not desert the same; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together,
own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us
conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments
of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life, and that such incapacity (or disability) is
the result of advanced age, my age being now 62 years, and resulting debilitated physical condition, being now unable to perform much work, and that such disability is not the result
of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and find that said applicant is a disabled Confederate soldier, is in
indigent circumstances, and partially incapacitated for manual labor, and that his claim is just, and that he should be allowed $50.00 pension.

EVIDENCE OF PHYSICIAN
STATE OF ARKANSAS}

I, W.H. Hammond, a duly registered and practicing physician in Scott County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with Wiley P. Brown of Brawley,
Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.
That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition, and find: State description and character of disability or disease: I find him diseased with ulceration
or sore leg and edema of the foot.
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable: His incapacity for manual labor is caused from his ulceration or sore leg, edema of the
foot and old age and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.
Extent of disability is so that he is incapacitated for manual labor.

Brawley, Ark., whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with applicant
Wiley P. Brown and have known him for 20 years, respectively.
That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of advanced age and poor health, and
that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of our knowledge, all property now owned by him and his wife,
together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for
any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That we have no interest in this claim.

On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Notary Public within and for the County of Fannin and State of Texas, M.J. Jackson, a citizen of Bonham, Tex., whom I certify
to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he was personally, well acquainted with Wiley P. Brown during the war of 1861 and 1865.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company "G" in Col. Alexander's Regiment of Tex. Cav. Vols. That as such soldier he served from about March 1862 to March 1863. About
this time I was placed on detail duty and left the command, therefore do not know about the discharge of said Brown. Never heard of any charge of desertion against him. That I served in
the same Company and Regiment and know that a man by the name of Wiley P. Brown was a member of the same company and regiment. That I have no interest in this claim.

with applicant Mattie Brown and have known her 25 and 30 years, respectively.
That she is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by her is not worth exceeding
$500.00, not including the value of her homestead,* or household goods. That she is not in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any service, in excess of $250.00
per year. That we have no interest in this claim.

I, Mattie Brown of Brawley, Arkansas do solemnly swear that I was born the 2nd day of June 1861 and that I am the widow of Wiley P. Brown, deceased, of Co. "G" Col. Alexandria Regiment
of Texas Cavalry, who served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, his proof of service being now on file in the Auditor's office, at Little
Rock, he having been allowed a pension under Act of the General Assembly, approved March 11, 1901, and subsequent amendatory Acts, while a resident of Scott County, Arkansas; that
I am now, and for the past twelve months have been a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action, in excess
of the value of $500.00 not including the value of homestead, or household goods; nor have I conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that I am not in
receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $250.00 per year; that my husband died on the 16th day of April 1921. And
I herewith file copy of proof of service of Wiley P. Brown as now on file in the office of Auditor of State, and also Certificate of said Auditor showing him entitled to pension in
the State of Arkansas. And further state that my marriage Certificate is duly entered of record in Marriage Record Book "C" at page 509, Scott County, Arkansas and that I have not
since remarried, so help me God.

I understand that Mattie Brown is trying to get Wiley P. Brown's pension and I don't think she ought to have it for she abounded [sic: abandoned] him four years ago, and I am
his only daughter and have takened care of him for four years. So I just thought I would write you, and if you want any evidence just notify me and I can tell you where to get
it for the people in this country knows how she has treated him for the last four years.
