APPLICATION FOR PENSION

STATE OF ARKANSAS}
County of Scott}
I, Balus E. Brasher do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Co. "H" I think commanded by Capt. Featherston in Col. Belconis[?] 19th Regiment of Infty. Vols. from the State of Arkansas. That I entered said service about the year 1862, early part, went in at beginning of war & served 6 mo. the time he went in for & came home & never went back; that I was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service after serving six months or or about the latter part of year 1862 or early part of 1863 and did not desert the same; that i am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life, and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result of wounds received in the service, being old age, my age now being 86 years, and feeble health and debilitated physical condition in consequence of old age and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

PROOF OF SERVICE
(By Comrades if Possible)

STATE OF ARKANSAS}
County of Scott}
On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Clerk Circuit Court within and for the County of Scott and State of Arkansas, Thos. F. Smith, a citizen of near Waldron, Ark., whom I certify to be a creditable person and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, states that he is personally, well acquainted with applicant Balus E. Brasher, having known him for 40 years.
That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company [blank] Regiment of [blank] as I am informed and believe but I cannot give of my own personal knowledge his Company and Reg't. That a such soldier he served from [blank] to [blank]. That he was honorably discharged from such service, and did not desert the same. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of advanced age, his age now being apparently about 85 or 86 years, and debilitated physical condition and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of my knowledge and as I know, all property now owned by him and his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year. That I have no interest in this claim. I was living a near neighbor to soldier and was well acquainted with him when he joined the Confederate Army. I did not serve in the war with him, but I was at Waldron when he left Waldron with his Company and saw them start away. The Company at that time as I understood enlisted only for six months. I was also at Waldron when the Company returned home and saw them discharged and paid off and the soldier Balus E. Brasher was with them and as I saw him start away with the Company and [illegible] with the Company I know he served as a soldier in the Confederate Army.

That as such soldier he served for about 6 months as well as I now remember. I was living near Waldron, Ark. when B.E. Brasher enlisted in the Confederate Army. I was present when he with others enlisted in the Confederate service and saw the Company take their departure. I was also present when the surviving members of the Company to which B.E. Brasher belonged were discharged at Waldron, Ark. after they had served out their six months. It was my understanding at the time they were discharged that they had served out the term for which they enlisted and were honorably discharged and that said B.E. Brasher and the other members of the Company never deserted the Company. That I have no interest in this claim. That said soldier B.E. Brasher is now dead and that his widow Sarah Brasher has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas.
