From a special section of the Waldron News newspaper of 23 April 1981, consisting of interviews of Scott County citizens 80 Years of age and over. The interviews were done as part of a celebration of the Bank of Waldron's 80th anniversary.

WALLACE & VERDIE McCUBBIN

Wallace and Verdie McCubbin were married in 1916. They have three children - Irene Hunt of Waldron, Bernice Limbarker of Oklahoma City and Charles McCubbin of Greenwood, Arkansas. Mr. McCubbin is 89 years of age and was born April 28, 1892 to Tom and Lou McCubbin in Franklin County near Ozark. He has lived in Scott County most of his life and most of this time was spent in Blue Ball, Arkansas, however, he has lived 32 years on Highway 80 East about 3 miles out of Waldron, and this is where he now resides. He was a farmer and also worked at various saw mills. Mrs. McCubbin is 81 years of age, and was born in Garland County about 5 miles south of Chrystal Springs. She moved to Scott County in 1915. She attended school at Sugar Creek. Her parents were Tom and Jennie Irons. At one time Mrs. McCubbin worked at the Rock Cafe as a dishwasher. Mrs. McCubbin was never afraid of work, she never refused to help those in need. She would go many a mile to care for the sick. She was a midwife and delivered lots of babies in Scott County. Mrs. McCubbin has resided in Pinewood Nursing Home since December 31, 1979.
