From a special section of the Waldron News newspaper of 23 April 1981, consisting of interviews of Scott County citizens 80 Years of age and over. The interviews were done as part of a celebration of the Bank of Waldron's 80th anniversary.

WINSTON & THELMA RICE

Winston and Thelma Rice celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary October 9, 1980, in the same house at Birdsview they have lived all of their married life. The occasion was a happy one, because all of their children were present: Gerald Rice and Junior Rice of Waldron; K. Jack Rice and Audean Rice Taff of Oregon and Vivian Rice of Florida, along with some of the grandchildren. The Rice's live on an 80 acre farm that was homesteaded by her grandfather when he came here from Georgia. The farm is still in a block with roads all around it. Mrs. rice's family came here from Johnson County in 1882 and lived in a log house located on land now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Thurlo Davis. Mrs. Rice was born on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. C.C. "Bill" Taff and also lived on farm land now known as the Melvin Taylor Farm. She has been a homemaker. Mr. Rice's family came here from Tennessee and he has been a farmer, stockman and carpenter. Both Mr. and Mrs. Rice attended school at Centerpoint and both are now 83.

WINSTON RICE

Winston Rice was born in Scott County on February 21, 1889. He is the son of Samuel C. and Vesta O. Rice. Winston married Thelma Davis on October 9, 1920, and they were married 67 years prior to her death. They had 5 children, Gerald Rice of Waldron, K. Jack Rice and Audean Rice Taff of Oregon, Junior Rice of Waldron and Vivian Rice of Austin, Texas. Winston attended school at Centerpoint, and is a member of Birdsview Methodist Church. He is a retired farmer, stockman and carpenter. He has 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
