Spotlight On...
WILLIAM LAMBERT SELF

We are pleased to put the Spotlight this week on one of Scott County's pioneers. We would like to introduce to our readers Mr. William Lambert Self. Mr. Self was born and raised in Scott County and has lived his 82 years in and around Waldron. He was born in 1885 in the Greenridge community to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Self. He is one of six children of which four are still living. Two brothers, Arvil, who lives east of Waldron and Doc, who lives in Springfield, Missouri. One sister, Mrs. Eloise Holladay of Escondido, California. Mr. Self and Mary House were married at Greenridge in 1911. They raised six children: Madge Barnett, Wayford, Waymon and Isabelle Heath of Waldron; Winfred of Santa Cruz, California, and Beatrice Ham of Brementon, N.Y. Mr. Self worked at timber and sawmill work all his life. To quote him, "he has cut more timber with little mills than any man living his age." He is still able to come to town every day in spite of one artificial foot.
