From a special section of the Waldron News newspaper of 23 April 1981, consisting of interviews of Scott County citizens 80 Years of age and over. The interviews were done as part of a celebration of the Bank of Waldron's 80th anniversary.

MARY HAWKINS

Mary (Thompson) Hawkins was born June 24, 1892 to Steve and Lula Thompson. She was born and raised around Parks, Arkansas. Mary has five sisters, Victoria Gilbreath of Parks, Permelia Allen of Longview, Texas, Mildred, Maude and Emma (Thompson) Hawkins, all now deceased. She has three brothers - A.B. Thompson of Parks, Jim and Seth Thompson both deceased. Mary was married to Charles E. Hawkins December 25, 1915. They made their home around Parks and raised four children, all of which are married and have children. She has nine living grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mary's sons and daughters are Claude Hawkins of Sand Springs, Oklahom, Raymond Hawkins of Fort Smith and Mittie Craft of Garland, Texas and Luretha Lloyd of Parks. Luretha works at the nursing home in Waldron. Mary and her husband were livestock farmers. They produced and preserved their own vegetables and meats. They always shared with friends and neighbors. Mary was a charter member of the Parks Home Demonstration Club. She was very active in church and community affairs. At one time she was recognized at a State Cancer Society Dinner for her outstanding Health Education activities and fund raising for the cancer society.
