H.C. BLISS

The timber business has been a way of life for H.C. Bliss. Retired from International Paper Company, he still is a tree farmer with 150 acres here in Scott County. Mr. Bliss has held the title of "Tree Farmer of the Year" three times. Born September 15, 1900 at Mineral Point, Wisc., Mr. Bliss came to Waldron 35 years ago. He remembers when buying timber, posts were valued at one cent each and pine saw timber at ten dollars per thousand. Mr. Bliss fooled Uncle Sam about his age and joined the service at age 17. He was sent overseas to France and there was in four major battles of World War I. During this time, he celebrated his 18th birthday in France. H.C. and wife Pauline Bliss live here in Waldron and have three children - Harold C. Bliss, Jr. of Ft. Smith, Charles H. Bliss of Tulsa and Jo Carolyn Bobbet of Ft. Smith.
