CHARLYE V. DAVIDSON

Charlye V. Davidson, age 83, has lived all her life in Waldron. She was born April 3, 1898 to Charles Edward and Suhalie (Hughes) Forrester. She was born on Danville Street, in the house next door to where she now lives. She attended Waldron Grade School and graduated from Waldron High School and the University of Arkansas in 1922 with a B.A. and B.M. Degree and was a member of the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority. She also attended Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. "Miss Chard" as she is better known, was married to the late Gene "Sodie" Davidson in 1922. She recalls that on their wedding day, Waldron had the biggest flood ever, the whole town was flooded - there was no way out of town, so they had to wait until the following morning to leave. Mrs. Davidson taught music in Waldron High School. She has served as Director of the Bank of Waldron since 1961. Her husband was President of the Bank of Waldron at the time of his death in 1960. "Miss Chard" is affiliated with the First Methodist Church in Waldron. She joined the church when she was 12 years old. She has served as Choir Director, Organist, held various offices in WSCS, Superintendant and Teacher of various Sunday School Departments. After her husband passed away, she donated some land to the county for a Park and she designated that it be named after her husband. This is why we have Sodie Davidson Park. At present, "Miss Chard" passes her time by working in her office downtown - closing out the Estate of the late C.E. Forrester. She is also pianist for the Waldron Lions Club.
