JOSEPH H. & MATILDA (PRESLEY) BAKER

Pictured above are J.H. (Joseph) Baker and his wife Matilda. They were early residents of Scott County, listed on the 1860 and 1870 census in Washburn Township. On the back of the photograph is written "Aunty Matilda" and below that "Mr. and Mrs. J. (Joseph) H. Baker." The writing on the front is not clear. Matilda was a Presley girl out of Alabama, the daughter of Robert and Piercie Presley. Robert homesteaded land in Scott County. Robert and Piercie are both buried in Hon Cemetery in unmarked graves. If anyone knows the location of their graves please contact me.

Joseph and Matilda Baker later moved to Oklahoma. He died December 11, 1889 in Kansas and she died about 1909 in Roanoke, Texas. Also in Scott County was John S. Baker who married Nancy Presley, a sister to Matilda. Their final location was Oregon.
