1/13/1924 - 4/18/2004 Lera Lorece Spann, age 80, departed this life on April 18, 2004 in Benton. She was a beloved wife and mother. She was a Christian and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Benton. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Edward and Una Mae James, her sister, Vada Cook, and husband Raymond. Lorece is survived by her cherished husband of 62 years, Clyde; her son, Ron and wife Debbie of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Paige Beck and husband Brian of Bryant and Ashli Francis and husband Shawn of Hugo, OK, and four great grandchildren, Morgan and Jake Beck and Chandler and Cole Francis. age 19. Died 15 Feb. along with two other men from Bryant when their auto ran off the road and plunged into a pond. The accident happened between Hy 67-70 and Bryant. The men in the car were Henry V. Cox and T.L. Oglesby of Bryant and C.C. Stuckey of Benton. No one saw the accident. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Sullivan, who live nearby, saw the car in five feet of water and officers were notified. It is surmised that the driver failed to make the curve, ran on the shoulder, then into the pond. The automobile went forty-five feet into the pond.

Harold W. "Swanee" Swanson Jr., 69, of Shawnee, KS, died quietly at home Sunday, January 25, 2004, with his family in attendance following an extended battle with cancer. He was born in Cranston, RI, on December 13, 1934, the son of Cora and the late Harold Walter Swanson, Sr. of Cranston, RI. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, at the Hickory Hills Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7100 Hadley, Overland Park, KS. Family and friends may call between 5-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Mr. Swanson graduated in 1952 from Cranston High School. After serving four years during the Korean War in the United States Air Force, he graduated from the University of Rhode Island as a member of the class of 1960. He married Sarah Jean Blackman in Garden City, NY, on September 10, 1960. She survives of the home. He worked as an electrical engineer for Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell for 37 years, both in Teterboro, NJ, and Kansas City, MO. Following retirement, he worked as an engineering consultant. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean B.
