This week we have come up withone of the clearest and most interesting of
our old pictures yet published --- interesting, at least, to the Star Herald
personnel and many others who remember these faithful writers of comunity
newsletters for the Star Herald around 1914: C. M. Penn, Noland writer,
furnished us with the picture and he identifies the group as, 2 men in
front, left, Green G. Davis (Ingram writer), and Jeff Cavenar (Elevenpoint
writer); second row, left to right, B. F. Sisson and Mrs. Sisson (Noland and
Hoover's Landing writers); L. F. Johnson (Alberta writer); standing, left to
right, Marion Cox (Harmony writer), Mr. Dotty (Middlebrook writer), Rufe
Mock, then Dee Mock (Demun, Maynard and Ravenden Springs writers), Eddie
Sparkman (Reyno and Biggers writer), C. M. Penn (Noland writer).
Mr. Penn stated that the occasion for the picture was that Mr. and Mrs. B.
G. Hinton, editors at that time, had invited the group to town for a feast.
The banquet was held at a public meeting hall located in the old J. W.
Presley building, located upstairs over what is now White River PCA office.
The photo was made at the studio of one of the finest photographers ever to
live in Pocahontas, the late G. F. Lemmons. Mr. Penn stated that he believes
the only writer for the Star Herald at that time, who was not present for
the picture was Mr. Talbott, Maynard writer (father of Harry Talbott) of
Pocahontas.
