OLDEST MASONIC BUILDING IN STATE

Randolph county is distinct among the masonic Orderin Arkansas in that we claim the oldest Masonic Lodge in the state. A building built of logs on Middlebrook-Warm Springs Road near Brakebill, and now in a state of decay, housed the first lodge, and was chartered out of the state of Virginia even before Arkansas became a state(1836). The group which met in the building and their charter moved before the Civil war to Pitman. The lodge and all records were destroyed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. Randolph Lodge No. 71, of Pocahontas, is the first lodge in Randolph county which was actually chartered in Arkansas. Randolph Lodge was chartered in 1853.
