OBITUARIES

STEPHEN RAY LEE, 33, of Pocahontas, died April 28, 2000, in a car accident near Pine Bluff. He was born July 26, 1966, in Lynwood, Calif., a son of Carroll and Jean (Whitehead) Lee of Pocahontas. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lisa (Ward) Lee, a son, Adam Lee, and two daughters, Amanda Lee and Alissa Lee; his grandfather, Filo Whitehead of Stanfield, Ariz.; three sisters, Yvonne anderson of charleston, W.Va., Sandy Roachha of Baytown, TX, and Becky Smith of Jonesboro. He is buried in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

ALVIN ELLISON, 72, of Pocahontas, died April 30, 2000, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1928, near Birmingham, Ala., a son of the late Andrew and Lucy (Kirkland) Ellison. His wife, Lillian Edwina Nelson, and a daughter, Barbara Phillips Lasen, also preceded him in death. He is buried in Nelson Cemetery near Reyno.

CLIFFORD CARROLL HENNINGS, 55, of Maynard, died April 25, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born Dec. 24, 1944 in Maynard, a son of the late Robert and Naomi Lee (Abbott) Hennings. He was a U.S. Army veteran and is buried in Siloam Cemetery near Middlebrook. 

JUNIE VERA MASSEY, 72, of Pocahontas, died May 1, 2000, in Randolph County Medical Center. She was born Oct. 26, 1927, in O'Kean, a daughter of the late Harrison and Stella (Jackson) Haney. She is survived by her husband, Emmett L. "Pete" Massey and is buried in Masonic Cemetery.

HUBERT BREN TUTT, 87, of Maynard, died April 26, 2000. He was a former resident of Steele, Mo. Born Dec. 7, 1912, near Murray, Ky., he was a son of the late Herman and Daisy Finney Tutt. He was married to Grace Irene Wagner Tutt on Sept. 23, 1939, who preceded him in death. He is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery there.

J. T. JOHNSON, 59, of Pocahontas, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died April 24, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. born Sept. 3, 1940, in Walnut Ridge, he was a son of the lateWill and Donnie Ehrhardt Johnson. He married Carol Duckworth Nov. 23, 1967 and she survives him. He is buried in Lawrence Memorial Park.

HAROLD RUSSELL DUNN, 74, of Belleville, Ill., died April 27, 2000. He was born July 6, 1925, in Reyno, a son of Clifford "Tip" and Minnie (Sanders) Dunn. He was a WWII veteran. His wife, Roberta Lane, survives him.

MATTHEW (JOE) HOWARD, 63, of Warm Springs, died April 27, 2000. He was born in Schlater, Miss., Aug. 30, 1936, a son of the late Louis Sr. and Ethel Hosking Howard. He is buried in Parkholm Cemetery in LaGrange, Ill.

NELDA J. (SHIVLEY) SMITH, 67, of Grand Blanc, Mich., died May 1, 2000, at Genesys Health Park there. She was born in Pocahontas, April 11, 1933, a daughter of the late Johnny Boy and Nadine Shivley. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence W. Smith. Swartz Funeral Home in Flint performed funeral services. Her body was cremated.

Darrell Salyards, 27, his wife, Betty J. Salyards, 22, and their 2-year-old  daughter, Vicky Kay, were killed in a head-on collision near Sunflower, Kan., April 22. Critically injured was Stephen Darrell Salyards, 2, their son.

Ben A. Brown, prominent Pocahontas businessman, died in Randolph County Hospital Wednesday.

NEWS OF MEN IN SERVICE... Sfc. Hewey B. Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonzo Franklin of Route 2, has been in Korea for the past 20 months. Hewey is hoping he will be able to return to the states in June. --- 1st Lt. Joseph E. Marlett, son of Mrs. Elvia Tyson of Warm Springs, completed an infantry officers' special course at Fort Benning, Ga., May 7. --- Undergoing recruit training at the U.S. Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif., is Bobby C. Hambrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hambrick of Biggers. 

Mrs. Myrtle Dalton Garrett, 57, died at her home at Augusta Saturday.

Mrs. Emma Carter, aged 72, died at her home in Hollywood, Calif., Wednesday of last week.

Ben Laney, 83, died at this home at Warm Springs April 25.

Charles Speice Stuttle, son of Dr. and Mrs. C.E. Stuttle, is among the list of graduates from Jonesboro A&M College.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Lucas, at a Memphis hospital on Sunday, May 6, a girl.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dock Williams of Ring, a big baby girl.

J.J. Lewis and family returned to their old home here after spending several years in California.

Mrs. A.E. Martin attended the Confederate Reunion in Little Rock.

OBITUARIES

BETTY BUTRICKS, 58, of Pocahontas, died May 8, 2000 at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. Born in St. Louis, MO, she moved to Walnut Ridge in 1980, then to Pocahontas in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Butricks in 1991. She is buried in Lawrence Memorial Park, Walnut Ridge.

MENDON RAY STOCKWELL, 75, of Pocahontas, died May 5, 2000, at st. Bernards Regional Center in Jonesboro. He was born July 17, 1924, in the Clearview community, a son of Stella L. (Broadway) Stockwell of Ash Flat and Thomas O. Stockwell. In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Rogers Stockwell. He is buried in Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, Calif.

REBA LUCILLE FORTENBERRY, 80, died April 28, 2000, at St. Joseph Health Center, Kansas City, MO. She was born June 21, 1919, in Pocahontas. She and her husband, Dr. J.D. Fortenberry moved to Kansas City in 1956. She is buried in Johnson County Memorial Gardens there.

BEA BURNSIDE, age 71, a resident of Bono, died May 2, 2000, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She is survived by her husband, Everett Burnside of the home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Services, Inc. of Walnut Ridge. 

JAMES J. WILSON, 79, of Pocahontas, died May 5, 2000, at Randolph Home. He was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Pocahontas, a son of the late Howard and Effie (Hier) Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Velma (Haley) wilson. He is buried in Sutton Cemetery near Pocahontas.

PEARLIE MAE BLEVINS, 84, of Pocahontas, died May 5, 2000, at her residence. She was born Jan. 23, 1916, a daughter of the late Leroy and Eva Elizabeth (Arnold) Miller. Her husband, Othie Blevins, also preceded her in death. She is buried in Ingram Cemetery near Maynard.

REV. BILLIE FAIR, 54, died May 4, 2000, at her home in Sikeston, MO. Born March 6, 1946, in Sikeston, a duaghter of Rev. Lawrence Ray and the late Mary Stuppy Ray. On June 4, 1967, she married Wayne Fair, who survives her. She is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.

Hugh Ennis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnston, is enjoying a 15 day furlough with relatives and friends in Randolph County. --- Robert J. Edson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Prevett of Biggers, has been promoted to the rank of Private first class. --- T-Sgt. Floyd B. Shaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Shaver of St. Louis, arrived in Korea April 28. --- The heavy cruiser USS Los Angeles is the new duty station for Clark D. Lincoln, fireman apprentice, USSN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hulen D. Lincoln of Maynard.

Robert Benjamin Holstead, 62, died at his home on the Warm Springs Route May 7.

William Henry Ainley, 84, of Maynard, died at his home May 8.

James I. Hall, 55, died at University Hospital at Minatare, Neb., April 28.

James Henry Smith, 70, died at his home here May 11.

The home of Mrs. Fleecie Osborn was destroyed by fire May 1. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Osborn occupied the three rooms of the home and all their clothing and furniture was destroyed. The place was known as the Uncle Bill Ulmer place and an old landmark, located on Highway 115. -- Stokes News.

Miss Lena Austin and Wm. T. Watts were married at the home of Justice J.A. Douglas here Monday, the justice officiating. The bride was 14 and the groom 44.

Mr. and Mrs. Felix Mock are the proud parents of a 10-pound boy.

Kermit Dalton of Reyno visited with his brother, Clarence, at Reece Ridge.

Born, a baby girl, to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rogers at Meridith.

Fire of unknown origins destroyed the Catholic Church at Noland early Sunday morning.

DOYLE LEON REDDICK, 74, of Maynard, died May 14, 2000, at his home. Born March 23, 1926 in Alexander, he was a son of the late Humphrey C. and Lillie Belle (Biggs) Reddick. He is survivedby his wife, Bobbie (Storey) Reddick. He is buried in Brakebill Cemetery.

NELLIE E. McBRIDE, 58, of Maynard, died May 11, 2000. She was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Mount Vernon, Ind., a daughter of the late Leo and Elvora Mayville Coan. She is survived by her husband, clayton McBride, and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in New Harmony.

CHARLES SIMINDINGER, 70, of Ravenden (Randolph County), died May 11, 2000. He was born in Lima, Ohio, April 22, 1930, a son of the late Carl and Cleyla Myers Simindinger. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Simindinger and is buried in Yadkin Cemetery near Ravenden Springs.

Johnson, Petty Officer Third Class, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson of the Maynard Route, expects to be returned to the States after serving with the U.S. Navy on Guam Island for the past 16 months. --- Sgt. Frank Jansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jansen, is returning to the U.S. after serving with the 7th Infantry Division in Kores. --- Thomas Welch, seaman, USN, son of Thomas Welch of Pocahontas, returned to San Diego, may 10, aboard the tank landing ship 527 which has served in the Far East for the past year. --- Staff Sgt. Bill Swann spent last week in Pocahontaswith his mother, Mrs. Howard Swann, and his sisters, Misses Patsy and Peggy. Swann will go from here to Fort Worth Texas, where he will receive his discharge May 26.

Little David Keech, 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Keech, was dismissed from the Northeast Arkansas Polio Center, Paragould, this week.

Stanley Ross, an employee of Sallee Bros. Handle Mill here, lost about an inch off the end of his right thumb while sawing handle blanks.

Verion Norris, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Norris of Old Jackson, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. He had taken refuge under a tree during a shower of rain.

Elder C. A. Fowler died at his home near Supply May 14.

J.F. Starling, 69, former resident of Randolph County, died May 6 at Carney, Okla.

A brand-new baby boy made his arrival at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Albright at Brownie on Monday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Miles Sanders of Sanders were the proud parents of a fine baby boy.

ZACHARY LEE HART, newborn son of Greg and Beth Hart of Pocahontas, was born and died May 17, 2000, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Zane and Zepplin, both of the home; his grandparents, Jerry and Carol Loggains of Pocahontas, Kevin and Darlene Keefe of Cabot and Linda Hart and Gene Hart Sr., also of Pocahontas; his great-grandparents, Pete and Opal Moore of Beech Grove. Two brothers, Christopher and Jeremy Hart preceded him indeath. He is buried in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

LUCILLE DUNLAP FEARS, 87, of Walnut Ridge, died May 19, 2000, at her residence. Born at Alicia, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Fears in 1984. She is buried in Lawrence Memorial Park there.

VELMA BAILEY, 86, of Pocahontas, died May 18, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center. Born June 30, 1913 in McCrory, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Blanche Kyle. There are no immediate survivors. She is buried in Woodman Cemetery near McCrory.

RYBURN BROOKS, 90, of Maynard, died May 17, 2000. He was born in Maynard, April 25, 1910, a son of the late Grant and Fredonia Ryburn Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Edna Brooks, and is buried in Maynard Cemetery.

JANA KIRKWOOD, 14, of Antioch, Tenn., died May 18, 2000, at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. She was born in Nashville, a daughter of Jeff and Loretta Kirkland of Antioch, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she is also survived by her grandparents, Millie Smith of Pocahontas and Jack and Elsie Kirkwood of Stafford, England. She is buried at Bradford Cemetery.

JAMES LEE RINEHART, 58, of Maynard, died May 20, 2000, at his residence. He was born June 19, 1941, in Alton, Ill., a son of Clara (Riney) Rinehart Vandevort of Maynard and the late Jack Rinehart. In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his wife, Bonnie (Atkins) rinehart of the home. He is buried in Masonic Cemetery.

J.C. HENRY, 74, of Pocahontas, died May 21, 2000. He was born in Black Oak, Marcy 3, 1926, a son of the late A. E. and Mary Bell Penter Henry. he is survived by his wife, Hazelene Henry, and is buried in Monette Cemetery.

His wife, Roseanna, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Baltz of Rt. 3.

Chandler off the coast of Korea, writes: "We had a pretty day Easter Sunday but we were at our guns from early morning until sundown." Hepler hopes to spend a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hepler, near Ravenden Springs, in July. --- T. Sgt. Cortis W. Coffey, formerly of Pitman, has returned to the States following a two-year tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force in Philippines.

Memorial Day services at the Masonic and St. Paul's Cemeteries were attended bygood sized crowds and the grave were beautified by lovely floral decorations.

L.R. Martin of this city was elected vice president of the Arkansas Association of Insurance Agents at a meeting in Hot Springs.

C.J. Stephens, who had been employed in the City Bakery here for some time, purchased the business and assumed charge of same.

WILLIAM EDMAN "DUB" JONES, JR., 76, of Ravenden Springs, died May 27, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center. Born April 29, 1924 in Randolph County, he was a son of the late William Edman Sr. and Ann May (Haynes) Jones. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife, Frances Brown Jones and is buried in Masonic Cemetery.

THOMAS NEWELL "TOM" PARTEN, 72, of Pocahontas, died May 23, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 25, 1928 near Sharum, a son of the late Thomas Alexander and Grace Ellen (Pickett) Parten. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee (Payne) Parten. He is buried in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

BOBBY J. MASIONGALE, 72, of Pocahontas, died May 26, 2000, at his home. He was born June 12, 1927, in Pocahontas, a son of the late Ault Taylor and Verda Cathrine (Johnston) Masiongale. He is survived by his wife, Mary Golden Masiongale and is buried in Harmony Cemetery.

MARY ELIZABETH MATHEWS, 73, of Walnut Ridge, died May 29, 2000, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born July 6, 1926, a daughter of the late Claud Hendon. Her husband, Robert Lee Mathews, also preceded her in death. She is buried in Lawrence Memorial Park in Walnut Ridge.

THOMAS WILLIAM WHITE, 76, of Ravenden, died May 22, 2000, at his residence. He was born Dec. 16, 1923, near Trumann, a son of the late Tom and Annie Jane (Hildreth) White. He was a veteran of WWII (Navy) and of the Korean Conflict (Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jean White and is buried in Hope Cemetery near Imboden.

C. SCOTT BROADWAY, 55, of Imboden, died May 24, 2000. He was born in Imboden Feb. 18, 1945, a son of the late Dallas and Maxie Mae Meredith Broadway. He is survived by his wife, Dovie Broadway, and is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

DR. CLARK MURL BAKER, 89, of Paragould, died May 29, 2000, at his home there. Born April 4, 1911 at Maynard, he was a son of the late Robert Lewis and Ina Ulmer Baker. He is buried in Linwood Cemetery there.

Haney of Pocahontas, was assigned to the 13th Corps Support Command at Fort Hood, Texas, May 12. She is a 1975 graduate of Pocahontas High School.

Samuel Leroy Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thompson of Route One, is on a 30-day furlough visiting with his parents. --- S-Sgt. James Dunn, who has been located with a Medical Group at Carswell AFB, Texas, arrived in Pocahontas Monday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Dunn. --- T-Sgt. Billy Rex Tyler and wife have returned to the States after having spent two years in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mrs. Oma Mae Baker, 50, wife of Jerman M. Baker, died in Randolph County Hospital, Monday.

Charles Irvin Horrell, Sr., 76, husband of Mrs. Ada Lee Horrell, died in Randolph County Hospital Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Less Strange are the parents of a baby daughter, born May 27, and named Velma Willene.

GENEVA HILL, 65, of Cabot, a former resident of Pocahontas, died at her residence there June 1, 2000. She was a daughter of Cleo Massey of Pocahontas and the late E.J. Massey. In addition to her mother, she is also survived by her husband, Walter Hill. She is buried in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

DOROTHY BETTY SPURLOCK, 67, of Little Rock, formerly of Pocahontas, died May 30, 2000, at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock. She was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Hiram, Ark., a daughter of the late William John and Lucy (Newman) Bradley. Her husband, Glenn Emanuel Spurlock, also preceded her in death. She is buried in masonic Cemetery.

MARGARET BRITT, 87, of Pocahontas, died June 1, 2000. She was born in Brookhaven, Miss., Feb. 9, 1913, a daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Johnson Herring. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Britt, Sr. She is buried in Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko, Miss.

BOBBY J. MASIONGALE, 72, of Pocahontas, died May 26, 2000, at his home. He was born June 12, 1927, in Pocahontas, a son of the late Ault Taylor and Verda Cathrine (Johnston) Masiongale. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict and was a charter life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Pocahontas. He is buried in Harmony Cemetery.

PAUL E. COURTNEY, 81, of Walnut Ridge, died May 29, 2000, at his home. He was born March 20, 1919 at Imboden, a son of the late James C. and Mattie Anderson Courtney. He was a veteran of WWII and is buried at Oak Forest Cemetery near Walnut Ridge.

MARY ALTA BARRY, 86, a resident of Imboden, died June 3, 2000, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born may 13, 1914 at Smithville, a daughter of the late C.M. and Jane (Winchester) Rainwater. She was thewidow of Roy Richardson. She is buried at Old Lebanon Cemetery.

Robinett, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Robinett of Rt. 1, Walnut Ridge, completed Basic Training at the Replacement Training Center, Fort Eustis Virginia. --- Patrick J. Jansen, who had been with the 18th Officers Training Company at Fort Benning, Ga., was graduated a Second Lieutenant on may 31. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. RUTH EVELYN KEITH HALL, 66, of Delaplaine, died June 9, 2000 at Randolph County Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 25, 1934, near Texarkana, AR, a daughter of the late William Hilton and Janie Louis (Burke) Keith. Her husband, Franklin Hall, Sr., also preceded her in death. She is buried in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

NORTA MAE GILES, 73, of Pocahontas, died June 9, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center. Born Nov. 3, 1926, in Randolph County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Nora (Walls) Stokes. She is survived by her husband, Bill Giles, and is buried in Masonic Cemetery.

LOLA LEE RODGERS, 80, of Pocahontas, died June 9, 2000, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center, Jonesboro. Born July 24, 1919, in Mississippi County, she was a daughter of the late James Edward and Sallie Beth (Shepherd) Turner. Her husband, Wesley Rodgers, also preceded her in death. She is buried in Masonic Cemetery.

RONALD KEITH ROOKER, 45, of Bradley, Ill., died June 7, 2000 there. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Like and Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Rooker. He is survived by his wife, Janet Menz Rooker and is buried at Greene County Memorial Cemetery in Paragould

JIMMY JOE BALLARD, 69, died May 26, 2000 in a Springfield, MO hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1930 at Birdell to George and Helen Hufstedler Ballard. On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Opal Cornelius. On April 27, 1993, he married Betty Pletcher who survives him. He is also survived by his father, George Ballard of Velma, Okla.

The population of Randolph County increased by approximately 3,555 people between April 1970 census and July, 1975, according to an estimate by the Federal Census Bureau. The estimated population of Randolph County was 16,200, an increase of 28.1 percent over the 1970 census of 12,645.

MEN IN SERVICE ... Second Lieutenant James Conway Harper, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Harper of Pocahontas, has received an appointment as a reserve officer of the U.S. Air Force.... Army Staff Sgt. Tommy G. Hogan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hogan of O'Kean, was awarded the 7th Engineer Brigade Certificate of Achievement on May 19 in Aschaffenburg, Germany.

The Rev. S.D. Poe, aged 68, died at his home at Clearview Wednesday morning.

Word reachec Randolph County on June 10 of the death of John F. West of Crane, Texas. He was 60 years old and formerly lived in Pocahontas, Birdell and Eleven Point.

Mrs. H.M. Moore of Dalton gave a party in honor of her niece, little Miss Nadine Gearhart's sixth birthday.

JAKE MARLETTE, 62, of Maynard, died June 12, 2000. He was born in Supply, Jan. 14, 1938, a son of Lucian Marlette of Maynard and the late Ruby Murdock Marlette. In addition to this father, he is also survived by his wife, Shirley Burgess Marlette. He is buried in Maynard Cemetery.

LARRY E. LEACH, 48, of Corning, died June 18, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center. He was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Corning, a son of Velma Stubblefield of Corning and the late Everett D. Leach. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Crawford Leach. He is buried in Corning Cemetery.

SARAH JANE WALKER, 44, of Beech Grove, died June 19, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge. Born Feb. 15, 1956 in Pocahontas, she was a daughter of Eli and Rosetta Mae (Ellington) Murray of Pocahontas. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, James Marion Walker. She is buried in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

CLAUDE ROY ROOKER, 86, of Williford, died June 12, 2000, at the Ash Flat Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born June 24, 1913, near Peach Orchard, a son of the late Claude Roy Sr. and Mollie Biggs Rooker. He is survived by his wife, Bernetta Davis Rooker and is buried in Brownie Cemetery near Peach Orchard.

Jimmy Black arrived in Pocahontas Friday for a 15-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Black. Pfc. Black is stationed at Mobile, Ala. --- Thomas F. Parker, Airman USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Parker of Pocahontas, is serving aboard the USS Boxer off the coast of Korea.

Mrs. Mary Lou Martin Tyler, 84, died at the home of a son on the Dalton Route June 23.

WALLACE, 85, of Pocahontas, died June 21, 2000, at Meadow Crest Hospital in Gretna, LA.  He was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Maynard, a son of the late John Franklin and Mollie Jane Green Wallace.  He  was a member of Masonic Lodge and a veteran of WWII. His wife, Anna Ruth Ellis Wallace, also preceded him in death.  He is buried in Johnston Cemetery near Biggers.

NAOMI IMOGENE FORRESTER, 79, of St. Louis, MO, died June 24, 2000, at the Cori Manor Nursing Center in Fenton, MO.  She was born Aug. 31, 1920, near Imboden, a daughter of the late Levi Arthur and Mary Caroline (East) Forrester.  She is buried in Linwood Cemetery near Paragould.

WILLIE GEARHART, 90, of Biggers, died at Baptist Med Center in Little Rock June 27, 2000.  She was born Nov. 3, 1909, in Poplar Bluff, MO, a daughter of the late George P. and Martha (Cravens) Parsley.  Her husbands, Roy Hutchison and T.R. Gearhart, preceded her in death.  She is buried in Nelson Cemetery near Reyno.

BESSIE W. ELLIS, 84, of Ravenden, died June 22, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.  She was born March 8, 1916, near McCool.  Her husband, Ray Ellis, preceded her in death.  She is buried in Dail Cemetery near Ravenden.

MARY ELIZABETH PAYNE, 64, died April 6, 2000 in Collevyille, Texas.  She was a former resident of Biggers.  She was the daughter of Major and Orlean Christian, born Nov. 11, 1935 in Pocahontas.  she met and married W.B. Payne on June 18, 1960 and he survives her.

WILLIAM LAWRENCE "BILL" PENN, 65, of Deming, NM, died June 18,2000.  He was born March 17, 1935 in Pocahontas, a son of Ethel and Almus Penn.  He married Marlene Cotbern on Nov. 7, 1953 and she survives him.  He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery.

Randolph County's worst death toll in a traffic accident was recorded here Saturday when seven people were killed and three injured in the collision of two automobiles near the Thielemier bridge on Hwy 67 about six miles north of Pocahontas.  Four were killed in one car and three in the other.  The dead are:  Joe Cooper, Jrs. James Brewington and her 10-mo-old baby daughter, Vickie Ann, Bonnie Mae Newman Bynum and Mrs. J.D. Davis and 10-mo-old baby and James Bynum, all of St. Louis.  Injured in the crash were Mrs. Cooper, J.D. Davis and Gary Brewington.

Charles Ragsdell, 52, well-known resident of Delaplaine, died June 20.

Virgie Bridges, 87, of Pocahontas, died Saturday, July 15,2000 at Randolph County Medical Center. She was born Feb. 13, 1913, in Pochontas, a daughter of the late James Frank and Fannie Josephine (Tyler) Tyler. Her husband Clifford Bridges preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral home with burial following in Masonic Cemetery.

Dorothy Marie Tyler, 86, of Rock Island, Ill., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center there. Born Feb 19, 1914 in Cedar Groves, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Allie Isac and Lizzie (Hogan) James. Graveside services were held Friday at Janes Cemetery near Ravenden Springs. McNabb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cecil James Phillips, 82, of 302 Maple St., Pocahontas, died Friday, July 14, 2000 at Randolph County Medical Center. He was born May 5, 1918, in Clay County, a son of the late Charley and Ruby (Story) Phillips. He was a veteran of WW II. Velma marie Morgan, 86, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, July 16, 2000. She was born Oct. 2, 1913, near Supply, a daughter of the late Henry and Minnie (Vester) Hagood. Funeral services werte held Wednesday in the Chapel of Cox-Waymon Funeral home. Interment was in Mt. Plesant Cemetery.

Lucille Spikes Rush, 85, of Monette, died July 10, 2000 at the Monette Manor. When young she had married Wayland Spikes, a member of the Lum Spikes family of Randolph County. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. July 12 at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with burial in Jonesboro Memorial park.

Mrs Wildine Smith, 52, of Portia, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at her home there. Born at Ravenden Springs, she resided in Portia for 25 years. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 13, at House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge wit burial following in Dry Creek Cemetery near Lynn.

Gilford N. "Gil" Legate, 87, of Chicago, Ill., died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Provena St. Joseph medical Center there. Funeral services were held June 12 at the West Chapel there. Interment was in Forest home cemetery in Forest park, Ill.

Odis Paul Riney, 77, of Ft. Worth, Texas died July 15, 2000 in a hospital there. He was born Sept. 4, 1922 in Maynard and was a Army veteran of WW II. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Thompson-Harverson-Cole Funeral Home in Ft. Worth.

A-B Sloan Million is now located at Lackland Air Force base, San Antinio, Texas.

Reporting for duty aboard th USS Bon Homme Richard in the Pacific is Billie Caastleman, seaman apprentice, son of Mr & Mrs Ezra Castleman of Pocahontas.

Lesley F. Miller, son of Mr & Mrs Wesley A. Miller of Pocahontas, was recently promoted to sergeant while serving with the 40th Infantry Division in Korea.

1st Lt. Joseph E. Marlett was presented the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster at Ft. McClelland for distinctive service as a weapons platoon leader in Korea.

The highest noncommissioned grade in the U.S. Air Force, Master Sergeant, was attained by Jason G. Foster at Clark Air Force Base in the Phillipines. Foster is the son of Mr & Mrs Z.T. Foster of Delaplaine.

Leo Dean and Clyde Kincade Jr., both of whom are serving with the U.S Navy at San Diego, Calif., left Saturday on their return trip to california after having a 30-day leave with their parents Mr & Mrs Clyde Kincade.

Mary Louise (Schmidt) Davidson, age 67, of Memphis, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Church of the Ascension there and burial was in Memorial Hill Gardens on Germantown Road, Memphis. She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob William Schmidt and a brother William Robert Schmidt.

Donald Lee Lane,70, of Pocahontas, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Eastern Ozarks Hospital in Cherokee Village. Born April 22, 1930 in Ava, Ok., he was a son of the late John Waymon and Thelma O'Neal Lane. He was a retired meat cutter. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral home with Terry Martin officiating. Burial followed in Masconic Cemetery.

Robert M.Cooper, 69, of Pocahontas, died July 17, 2000. He was born Dec. 5, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of the late Claude and Edith Martin Cooper. He served his country as a Marine in the Korean Conflict. Funeral services were held July 20 in the Chapel of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Massey officiating. Burial followed in the Gravesville Cemetery.

Lyda Parks Keith, 93, formerly of Pocahontas, died Thursday, July 21, 2000, in Panama City, Fl. She was born March 1, 1907, in Datto, and resided in Pocahontas for over 70 years where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs keith was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil M. Keith. Arrangements for interment will be announced at a later date.

James Lee Tapp, 75, of Pocahontas, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000. He was born in Blue Mountain, Miss. May 20, 1925, a son of the late Lee and Luther Crump Tapp. He served his country in the Army in WW ll. The body was cremated. Cox-Waymon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Velma Marie Morgan, 86, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, July 16, 2000. She was born Oct. 2, 1913, near Supply, a daughter of the late Charlie A. and Minnie Vester Pitman. She was a member of Mount Plesant Baptist Church at Pitman. Funeral services were held July 19 in the Chapel of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home with Rev Rick Hassell officiating. Lantie Newsom, Boatswain's mate First Class of Norfolk, Va., arrived in pocahontas Sunday for a 30-day leave and is visiting with his parents, Mr & Mrs Frank Newsom.

Pfc. Glen S. Hufstedler, son of Mr & Mrs Emmitt Hufstedler of Noland, and Billy J. Barnes of Rt. 1 Biggers, recently participated in " Operations Signpost". They are cannoneers and members of the Army's 51st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Brigade which guard the Chicago-Detroit areas.

Cadet Glenburn L. Throgmorton and Cadet Luther Eli Abbott, ROTC students at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, are attending the 1952 infantry ROTC Summer Camp at Ft. Benning Ga.

Mrs Bessie Edwards, age, 33 of Stone County, drowned in Black River near Skaggs Ferry Sunday afternoon while several young people looked, unable to rescue her.

A pretty little eight-pound daughter, Ella Wiona, was born to Mr & Mrs C.F. Kassinger at Noland Saturday morning.

Mrs. Mason Stacy and Elbert Bly opened a term of school at Shannon.

J.N. Pratt took a truckload of produce to Memphis Monday.

OBITUARIES FROM POCAHONTAS STAR HERALD AUGUST 3, 2000

Hattie Loretta Walker, 91, of Imboden, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center. Born October 26, 1908 near Dalton, she was the daughter of the late Greely and Rebecca (King) King. Her husband, Joe Walker, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hope Cemetery near Imboden.

Genevieve E. Wells, 77, of Sylmar, Ca. died July 28, 2000, at Holy Cross Hospital in California. She was born July 21, 1923, at Water Valley, a daughter of the late Arvil L. and Viola (Blansett) Cremeens. Her husband, Francis (Bud) Wells preceded her in death. Funeral services and burial were held in Sylmar, Wednesday.

Eric Shannon Virgin, 28 , of 6201 Hwy. 90, Pocahontas, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at University Hospital in Little Rock. He was born May 27, 1972, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of Gene Virgin of Pocahontas and the late Rose Mary (Bethel) Virgin. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11a.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with burial following in the Shiloh Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Henry C. Brandon, 89, of 1908 Douglas, Pocahontas, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at his home. He was born March 25, 1911, in O'Kean, a son of the late John Samuel and martha Jane (Clark) Brandon. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services were held at the Church of God, Wednesday with burial following in the Sharum Cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

OLDEST MASONIC BUILDING IN STATE

Randolph county is distinct among the masonic Orderin Arkansas in that we claim the oldest Masonic Lodge in the state. A building built of logs on Middlebrook-Warm Springs Road near Brakebill, and now in a state of decay, housed the first lodge, and was chartered out of the state of Virginia even before Arkansas became a state(1836). The group which met in the building and their charter moved before the Civil war to Pitman. The lodge and all records were destroyed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. Randolph Lodge No. 71, of Pocahontas, is the first lodge in Randolph county which was actually chartered in Arkansas. Randolph Lodge was chartered in 1853. This charter ran until 1864, then was destroyed by Union soldiers. It was rechartered in 1866.

Pfc. Samuel Leroy Thompson, son of Mr & Mrs Jimmy Thompson of Roure 1 Pocahontas, is now serving with the Army in Korea. Pfc. Thompson entered the service on March 20, 1951 and arrived overseas in the early part of July.

Airman Perry G. Kellett, son of Mrs Iva Kellett of Ravenden, is completing his Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Born to Mr & Mrs Bill Holobaugh, a 6 pound 10 ounce daughter, named Debra Lou, at Randolph County Hospital August 6.

Mr & Mrs James Sorgare the parents of a 9 pound 15 ounce baby son, born last week in Randolph county Hospital.

Herman Arnt Hibbard, 55, died at Kennedy Veterans Hospital in Memphis Sunday.

Funeral services for Mrs jess Osborn, who died Tuesday of last week, were held Saturday afternoon at the First baptist Church.

Ethel Mae Kirkendall, 91, of Pocahontas died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at the Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Searcy, a daughter of the late George and Myrtle (Manes) Lauder. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with burial following in the Gum Springs Cemetery near Searcy.

Frances Russell, 81, of Corning died at the home of a daughter, Billie Cole in Reyno Wednesday, Aug 9, 2000. She was born Jan 1, 1919 near Imboden, a daughter of the late Samuel Luther and Ida Mae (Davis) Hufstedler. She was preceded in death by her husband, William j. Russell. Graveside services were held at Corning Cemetery Friday morning. Ermert Funeral Home of Corning was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Ruth Waterworth, 96, of 102 Watts Trail, Pocahontas, died Monday, Aug 7, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center. Born March 19, 1904, in What Cheer, Iowa, she was a housewife. Funeral services were held Friday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Masonic Cemetery.

Leonard LaVon (Bud ) Rains, 56, of Thayer, Mo., died Aug 7, 2000, in Avon, N.Y. He was born Feb. 7, 1944, in Gateway, Ar. to W.L. Rains of Republic, Mo., and the late Thelma (Williams) Rains. Funeral services were held Aug 11 in the Assembly of God Church, in Republic with burial following in Evergreen Cemetery, there.

(from files of Aug 31, 1952)

The Farmers & Merchants Bank of Reyno was robbed by a lone masked bandit about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday. He got $17,424.00 and has not been apprehended. Glenn Brown, vice president and cashier, said he and Mrs Otistean Ahrent, ass. cashier, found a customer, Ron Athy, waiting outside when they arrived to open the bank. All three entered together and Mrs Ahrent noticed something wrong with the back door. As she went to investiagte, a man wearing a black mask and bandishing an automatic pistol stepped from behind a door and ordered them to get in a small room near the vault.. Mrs Ahrent opened the vault and put money in a bag, as she was told. In a few minutes another employee, Muriel Butler, arrived and released the imprisioned trio. According to former Sheriff, R.H. Gullett, this is the first bank robbery in Randolph County since a man rode into Maynard at noon on a mule, and held up the now non-existing Bank of Maynard several years ago.

Mr & Mrs F.T. Wilsonof Nashville, Tn., this week purchased the Hotel Randolph from Mr & Mrs Glenn F. Barnes, who have operated it the last 22 years.

Buddy Kersey arrived home Tuesday for a 30-day leave with his parents Mr & Mrs A.C. Kersey and brothers, Dick and Haywood.

M-Sgt. Robert W. Jones left Sunday for Mountain Home, Idaho, Air Force Base for re-assignment. Mrs Jones remained here with her parents, Mr & Mrs Hite Stubblefield.

Stg. Huey B. Franklin, who had spent the past 22 months in Korea, is enjoying a furlough here with his parents, Mr & Mrs Lonzo Franklin and family.

Mr & Mrs Darrell Fender are the parents of a son, born Tuesday at Randolph County Hospital. He has been named Steven Kent.

Mrs L.C. Haynes, 73, former resident of Pocahontas, died at her home in Success last Saturday.

Funeral services for J.J. Brooks, who lived near Imboden, were held Wednesday at the Baptist Church in Imboden.

The descendants of Edward and Elizabeth (Bonds) Mattix, who came from North Carolina and settled on Eleven Point River before Arkansas Territory formed, met august 18 and 19 for a family reunion. There were 75 branches of the family and several of them left this area in 1857 in an ox wagon. At that time it took the wagon train 8 months to make the trip to california.

Dorothy Marie Gunter, 72, of 1154 Squirrel Rd., Imboden, died Monday, August 21, 2000, at Regional Medical center, Jonesboro.

She was born near Noland Dec 20, 1927, a daughter of the late Olla Earl and Reva(Aubuchon) Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar C. Gunter. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with burial to follow in Chesser Cemetery.

Kenneth Wayne Hanson, 62, of 742 Brakebill Road, Warm Springs, died Monday August 21, 2000, at his residence. He was born October 28, 1937, in Duncan, Ok., a son of the late Kenneth A. and Mildred (Bell) Hanson. He is survived by his wife, Jacke Lu Tolsby Hanson of the home. Private funeral services were held under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Harriet M. Jones, 74, of Pocahontas, died Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at Randolph County Medical Center.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete and under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

Barbara Jean Miller, 65, of Ravenden, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at St Bernards Regional Center in Jonesboro. She was born April 22, 1935, in Memphis, the daughter of Eugene and Frances Viola (Wiseman) Alderson.  She was preceded in death by 2 husbands Thomas C. Wells and Estes Miller. Graveside services were held Saturday at old Union Cemetery in the Birdell community. Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut ridge was in charge of arrangements.

Dave Edward Dame, 77, of West Frankfort, Ill., died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at Union Hospital there. He was born September 25, 1922 in Pocahontas, a son of the late Ed and Nancy Ann (Parker) Dame. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II.  Funeral services were held Friday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral home with Mike McNabb officiating. The body was cremated.

Sandra Jo (Rice) Fowler, 40, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Friday, August 18, 2000 at United Medical Center West there. She was December 1, 1959, in Pocahontas, a daughter of Bill Rice and Dorothy (Ballard) Rice. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery.

A Memorial Service to honor the life of Lyda Keith will be held Sunday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m., at Masonic Cemetery with Rev Don Strait officiating. A visitation for family and friends will immediately follow the service at the home of Max and Geraldine Oakley.

Fortson is a 1976 graduate of Biggers-Reyno High School.  Airman Michael A. Smith, son of Mr & Mrs Floyd D. Smith of Rt. 2, Pocahontas, has graduated at Sheppard AFB, Texas, from the Air Force technical training course for aircraft maintenance specialists.  Private Keith E. English, son of Mr & Mrs Cowan English of Pocahontas, has graduated at Ft. Belvoir, Va., from the Mobile Electric Power Generation Course at the U. S. Army Engineers School. He is now on duty with the 2nd Bn., 39th Artillery in Schweinfurt, Germany. Hilda Joyce Jones, daughter of Mr & Mrs Roosevelt jones of Rt 3, and Diana Irene Wilson, daughter of Mr & Mrs Albert Wilson, also of Rt. 3, Pocahontas, were commissioned Second Lieutenants in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. Lieutenants Jones and Wilson graduated from Maynard High School in 1971 and both completed a two-year nursing degree program at Arkansas state University. Upon completion of an 8-day orientation course for Air Force nurses at Sheppard Air Force Base near Wichita Falls, Texas, Lt. Jones will depart for her first assignment at Torrejon Air Base near Madrid, Spain, and Lt. Wilson will depart for Yokoto Air Force Base, Yoyko, Japan.

Four Randolph County men were inducted into the Armed Forces. They were: Albert Heral, O'Kean; Ernest L. Tyler, Pocahontas; Richard Thielemier, Engleberg Rt. Pocahontas; and Orville Montgomery of St Louis.

Peter Simon Blissenbach, aged 78, who had made his home in Randolph County since 1883, died Sunday. He is survived by a son, William J. Blissenbach, well known Pocahontas merchant.

John B. Kellett, aged 90, died at his home near Ravenden Springs Tuesday.  He leaves his wife Malania Hale Kellett, 2 daughters, Tishie Bailey and Virgie Rickman of Ravenden, and 2 sons Jasper and Roy Kellett of Ravenden Springs.

Mr & Mrs W.A. Shipp had a new baby arrive at their home near Old Jackson.

Paul Million went to Marianna where he has accepted a position.

Barry Dwight Ingram, 56, of 1617 Frenken St., Pocahontas, died Saturday, at his home. Born December 10, 1943, in Lawrence County, he was a son of Duel Ingram of Pocahontas and the late Tressie (Jackson) Ingram. He was an employee of Magee Co. in maintenance. Funeral services were held Monday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with burial following in Randolph Memorail Gardens.

Jeffery Riley Blackwell, 29, of Warm Springs, died Saturday, August 26, 2000, in Doniphan, Mo. He was born August 12, 1971 in Little Rock, a son of the late Lehman and Jeweldean (Griffin) Blackwell. graveside services were held Tuesday at Warm Springs Cemetery with Ferman Moore officiating. McNabb Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Alfred McGlothlin, 78, of 101 Blansett Rd.,  Pocahontas, died Tuesday August 22, 2000 at his home. He was born July 18, 1922 in Pocahontas, a son of the late Richard and Stella (Barnett) McGlothlin. He was a retired cutter for the Arnold Palmer Golf Bag Co. Funeral services were held Friday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial followed in Sutton Cemetery.

Lester Glenn Broadway, 71, of 508-C Bluff Dr., Pocahontas, died Thursday August 24, 2000, at the Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born November 24, 1928 in Imboden, a son of the late charles Herman and lillie Mea (Goff) Broadway. He was a retired carpenter. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial followed in Plesant Grove cemetery.

Marshall Lou Detar, 82, of Imboden, died Friday August 25, 2000, at his home. He was born June 21, 1918, in Flint, Mich., a son of the late George Washington and Allie (Ferris) Detar. His wife Marian Pearl Hand Detar preceded him in death. The body was cremated.

Barbara I. (Roux) Mack of St. Louis, Mo., died August 24, 2000. She was born and raised in Randolph County. She is survived by her husband Vernon Mack. Funeral services were held Monday in St. Louis' Kurtis Funeral Home. Interment was at National Cemetery there.

Foy E. Sorrell, 83-year-old retired farmer of Gatewood, Mo., died August 22, 2000, in the John Cochran V.A. Hospital in St Louis, Mo.He was born Jan 15, 1917 in Warm Springs, and was a longtime resident of this area. He is survived by his wife Ruby Blackweel Sorrell. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan, Mo. Burial was in Myrtle Cemetery.

Clarence Hibbard, 79, of Pocahontas, died Friday, Aiugust 25, 2000. He was born in the Clearview community, May 23, 1921, a son of the late George and Nellie Chastain Hibbard. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.  Funeral services weree held Monday ib the Chapel of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.

Leecil Thurlo Bates, 75, of 326, Country Club Road, Pocahontas, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Randolph Home. He was born August 7, 1925 in Randolph County, a son of the late Burley and Vessie (Lemmons) Bates. He was a retired postal service worker and a Navy veteran of World War II. Funeral services were held Monday in the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home. Burial followed in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Clinton Walter Cozart, 83, of Maynard died Sunday at his home. He was born June 6, 1917 in Enfield, Ill., a son of the late John A.. Logan and Nora Ann (Russell) Cozart. Five brothers, Ervin, Cecil, Clyde, Chester and Erskin Cozart and three sisters, Elsie, Ruby and Lucille preceded him in death. He was a member of the Maynard Church of Christ and served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired from Brown Shoe Company after 30 years of service. Survivors include his wife Ruby Irene (Julian) Cozart of the home; a son Jerry Cozart and a daughter Betty tucker both of Pocahontas; a brother John A. Cozart of Maynard; 4 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held August 23 at the Maynard Church of Christ with James Arvil Knotts officiating. Interment was in Maynard Northside Cemetery under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Stanley Tucker, Allen Wilson, Greg Wrenfrow, Alfred Kerley, McRae Rapert and Raymond Nash.

Tempo of business is up in Randolph County....Randolph County proved to be a better-than-average market in the past year, according to a nation-wide survey. Local residents had net earnings, after payment of taxes, of $49,243.00, as compared to $43,855.00 the previous year. Median income was $6,895.00 per household. Most local families loosened their purse strings and returned to the marketplace to buy cars, washing machines, refrigerators and other big-ticket items that they had been holding back on for sometime. The net result was that business was good for retail merchants in Randolph County.

Jim, Charles and Lucille Shivley have acquired the interest of the late Ben A. Brown in the Randolph County Abstract Company, and Jim shivley has assumed active management of same. Mrs Lucille Stolt has been retained as an abstractor with the firm. 

Mrs Malanie Kellett, aged 90, familiarly known to her relatives and friends as "Lane" died at her home near Ravenden Springs Friday night, only 3 days after the passing of her husband, joshua B. Kellett. 

Capt. Jesse Hayes has been recently awarded a Bronze Star and sevearl ribbons for overseas service.- West Ingram News-
