This is a lawsuit that resulted from the taking of the land by the Federal Government for the Arkansas Ordinance Plant at Jacksonville, AR. It was filed by Claude and Mattie Granberry on behalf of the residents and property owners in the area that was taken. There were many families that were given a minimal price for their land, crops and houses. Naturally the Government won the case and paid the minimal price for their property. As you can see, there were many families that had to relocate. Some of this property was resold back to the original land owners in 1946. David Brannon's parents lived on a farm owned by Orlando J. Freeman about where the LRAF Base Chapel now stands. They had 40 acres of cotton in the field at the time they were forced to vacate the land. His parents also owned an adjoining 40 acres of land with a house to the west of there. They were compensated with $25 for the crop and $600 for the 40 acres of land with house. After WWII in 1946 his mother was allowed to repurchase the 40 acres of land only, at a price of $400. This property was retaken again by the Federal Government in 1951 to build the Little Rock Air Force Base.
