Ben F. Thompson Passed to beyond Has been a resident of Polk County since 1871, and was eldest member of Dallas Lodge No. 128 Funeral at Home Benjamin F. Thompson, one of the pioneers of Polk County, has answered the final call, his death occurring Thursday night at the family home in the Dallas Valley, where he has lived for more than a half century. The end was not unexpected, for he had been in failing health for some weeks past. Funeral Services will be held Saturday. "Uncle Ben" was the oldest member of the Dallas Lodge, No. 128 F&AM and that fraternity will have charge of the final interment. Services will be held at the family home, the time to be announced later. Decedent was born in Alabama, February 6, 1836 and was nearing his 88th birthday. He spent his youth in the home state, and served thru the war between the States as a Member of the 12 Alabama infantry. In the great battle of Gettysberg he was among the confederate wounded.

"Funeral
services for Spear A. Titsworth, 67-year-old well known Nunley resident
who died Sunday, Sept. 8, was held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 11, at two
o'clock in the Board Camp Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder B. Isaacs
and Elder Hartzell Cayce officiating. Interment was in the Board Camp
cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Casket
bearers were Hershel Crow, Glen Turner, Delbert Hughes, Curtis Powell,
Dale Spencer, Nick Heath, Harold Parker and Bob Martin. Honorary
casketbearers were H. E. Gardner, Jess Hairrell, Joe Bob Lane, R. O.
Boogart, Russell Barton, Charlie McMillan, Hubert Goodner, Bill Medford,
Dr. D. P. Hefner, David Edwards, Charles Holmes, Lucian Wagner, and Louis
Wilcox. Mr. Titsworth was born in Mena on June 23, 1901, his parents being
the late Mr. and Mrs. Newt Titsworth, Sr. He was a retired farmer and had
spent his entire life in this area. He was a member and Deacon in the
Board Camp Primitive Baptist Church. He was also a former member of the
Board Camp school board and of the Polk County Democratic Central
Committee. On Oct. 20, 1922, he was married at Board Camp to Miss Opal
Ellison, who survives him. Other survivors are two sons, Harold Titsworth,
Mena; and Bill Titsworth, Hatfield; one daughter, Mrs. Modean Atchley,
Mena; one brother, Newt Titsworth, Jr., Mena; four sisters, Mrs. Alf
Ellison, Mrs. Lee Adams and Mrs. John Howell, all of Mena, and Mrs. Bill
Gibson, Fort Smith; also, nine grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren."

TOWRY, P. R.

Funeral service for P.R. Towry, 67-year old Hatton resident, who was
killed Christmas day by a Jersey bull, was held at 2:00 o'clock Friday
afternoon at the Hatton Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Walter Mease
officiating. Burial was in the Witherspoon Cemetery, under the direction
of Geyer Funeral Home. Pallbearers were B.W. Oglesby, Jack Gilliland, Bill
Plummer, J.M. Jordan, R. Hackworth, L.W. Whiteley and J.L. Nations. Mr.
Towry was born July 24, 1888 near Hatton. He grew to manhood near Hatton,
and spent his entire life in that vicinity. He united with the Church of
Christ many years ago. He formerly worked for the Kansas City Southern
Railroad, and later engaged in stock farming. He leaves to mourn his
passing, his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Towry of Hatton; one son, P.R. Towry, Jr.,
of San Jose, Calif; four daughters, Mrs.Opal Jones of Seattle, Wash; Mrs.
Oma James and Mrs. Jessie Ondler of Sacramento, Calif; and Mrs. Lillian
Reed of St. Louis, Mo; one daughter preceded him in death. he leaves one
brother, Mark Towry of Snyder, Okla; three sisters, Mrs. F.W. Keith of
Smackover, Ark; Mrs. Irene Green and Mrs. Josie Green of Rising Star,
Texas; also 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Merrit Cecil Toyne, age 75, of Mena, died April 4, 1998, in
DeQueen. He was born May 9, 1922, in Lanesboro, Iowa to the late Victor
and Florence Riedesel Toyne. He was a real estate broker and cattle broker
for over 45 years. He was the past president of the Lander Masonic Lodge
in Lander, Wyoming, and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He attended
college in Beuna Vista, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Margo, Mena; 3
sons: Leon Toyne, Steve Toyne, and Michael Toyne, and one daughter, Connie
Arthur; 2 stepchildren: Chester Redding, Jr. and Victoria Redding; 12
grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held
Wednesday, April 8, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in
Mena. Services are under the direction of Geyer-Quillan Funeral Home of
Mena.

Word has been received of the death
of Earl Turner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Porter Turner of Mena, who died
Saturday night at his home in Lovell, Wyo. Funeral service and burial were
to be today (Wednesday) in Wyoming. Mrs. Turner has been in Wyoming with
her son for the past three months.
