PLEVAN, Joseph L.

Funeral service for Joseph Louis Plevan, who died Thursday, Dec.27, at the
Polk County Memorial hospital,was held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at
the Northside Church of Christ with the Rev. B. B. Harding, pastor,
officiating. Burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park was directed by the
Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Carl Whisenant, Ruff Lane,
Albert Robertson, David Greer, Felix Voightlander and Adam Deck. Mr.Plevan
was born November 2, 1872, in Odoreau, Austria. He came to the United
States at the age of 4 years. The family first located at Baltimore, Md.
He later lived at Henryetta and Calvin, Oklahoma, until 1929, when he
moved to Mena. Here, in 1936, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs.
Annie Davis Plevan. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Besides his
daughter, Mrs.Clarice Norris Shrader of Mena, with whom he was making his
home at the time of death, he is survived by five half sisters, Mrs.Annie
Hackworth, Del Rio, Texas; Mrs.Paula Carpenter, Mrs.Nettie Kinslo,
Burtram,Texas; Mrs.Selma Elliott, Bishop, Texas; Mrs.Ida York,
Pleasanton,Texas; five half brothers, Dr. E.H.Plevan,Gadsdan,Ala.; Rudolph
Plevan, San Angelo,Texas; Emil Plevan, Burnett, Texas; Pete Plevan,
Fallurrias,Texas; Robert Plevan, Burtram,Texas, and his step mother
Mrs.Anna Plevan, Burtram,Texas. Also four grandchildren, Bobby Joe Norris,
Rodney Oliver Norris, Brent Shrader and Kent Shrader, all of Mena.
Relatives and friends out of town attending the funeral included: Dr.and

Ethel Carter Owen, 87, of Texarkana, Ark., died Monday, March 12, 1990, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Owen was born April 6, 1902, at Mineola, Ark., and was a member of Vandervoort United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Nesbitt Carter, who died in 1985.
Survivors include one daughter, Maydell McDaniel of Texarkana; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weatherspoon Cemetery, Vandervoort.
Burial is under the direction of Geyer-Quillin Funeral Home, Mena, Ark.

CHOCK PARSON
Charlie G. (Chock) Parson of Umpire died Saturday morning. Born Jan. 21, 1903 at Hartley, he was 70.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Midway Church of Christ with Rev. Hunter Logan officiating. Interment was in the Saline Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Casketbearers were David Parson, Tom Parson, James Counts, John Mays, Seldon Parson and Buck Parson.
Parson was the son of the late W. S. Parson and Abbie Carter Parson, and was a farmer-stockman. He was married to Miss Dortha McNutt on Nov. 26, 1923, at Athens. Mrs. Parson died on May 30, 1971.
Survivors are two brothers, Walter Parson of Fort Smith, and Neb Parson of
Austin, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. O. L. Baber of Mena, Mrs. G. N. Cox of Baytown,
Texas; Mrs. Hal Boyette and Mrs. C. C. Barnes, both of Fort Smith, and several
nieces and nephews.

Walter Parson
Walter Parson, 64, of 1800 Atlanta died Thursday at a Fort Smith hospital.
Associated with Western Auto for 20 years, he owned the Western Auto store at 3610 Towson Ave.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Camden Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; a daughter, Janie Gazzola of Fort Smith; two sons, Tom and David, both of Fort Smith; four sisters, Mrs. O.L. Baber of Mena, Mrs. G.N. Cox of Baytown, Texas, Mrs. C.C. Barnes and Mrs. Hal Boyette, both of Fort Smith; a brother, Neb Parson of Austin, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Fentress Mortuary.

Nesbitt (Neb) Parson, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at his home in Van Buren. He was born in Howard County on March 21, 1924. He was a retired manager for Handy Dan Inc. in Austin, Texas. He moved back to Arkansas in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Kathryn Mays and her husband, John of Fort Smith; his stepdaughters, Sharon Hall and her husband, Bill of Springfield, Mo., and Carolyn Bradham and her husband, Bobby of Olive Branch, Miss.; two grandsons, John and Kevin Mays of Fort Smith; five stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John and Kevin Mays, Bob, Wes and Hal Boyette and Billy Hall.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.

ABBY PARSONS
Mrs. Abby Parsons, of the Old Dallas Community, died Wednesday afternoon in the Polk County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Friday in the Beasley-Wood chapel with Rev. A. G. Ascott, and Rev. J. D. Webb officiating. Interment was in Center Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Casketbearers were Carrol Blanton, James Counts, Hal Boyette, David Parsons, Seldon Parsons, Richard Parsons.
Born Dec. 17, 1884, at Hartley, she was 87 years old.
Mrs. Parsons was the daughter of the late Richard Carter, and Missouri McMillon Carter, and had been a resident of the Shady Lake area for many years, before moving to the Old Dallas community several years ago. She was united in marriage to William S. Parsons on January 18, 1902, at Hartley. Mr. Parsons preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1968.
Survivors are: C. G. Parsons of Umpire, Walter Parsons of Fort Smith and Neb Parsons of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. O. L. Baber of Mena, Mrs. C. C. Barnes of Fort Smith, Mrs. G. N. Cox of Baytown, Texas, and Mrs. H. K. Boyette of Fort Smith; and 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

WILLIAM S. PARSON
Funeral service for William S. Parson, 88-year-old well known Mena resident who died Thursday, Oct. 24, was held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock in the Beasley-Wood chapel, with the Rev. Hunter Logan officiating. Interment was in the Center Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Gravesite Masonic rites were conducted by Baker Springs Lodge No. 349, with Carson Fowler officiating.
Casketbearers, all grandsons of Mr. Parson, were Hal W. Boyette, Tommy Parson, Paul Pate, Johnnie Mays, David Parson, Al Pate, James Counts and Frank Cox.
Mr. Parson was born June 24, 1880, in Pauldin County, Ga., his parents being the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Parson. He was a retired Forest Service employee and an honorary member of the Baker Springs Masonic Lodge No. 349 of Umpire, having been a member for over 65 years. On Jan. 18, 1902, he was married at Hartley, to Miss Victoria Abbiegale Carter, who survives him.
Besides his wife, Mr. Parson is survived by four daughters, Mrs. O. L. Baber,
Mena, Mrs. C. C. Barnes and Mrs. H. K. Boyette of Fort Smith, and Mrs. G. N.
Cox, Baytown, Texas; three sons, C. G. Parson, Umpire, Walter Parson, Camden,
and Neb Parson, Austin, Texas; one brother, Sam Parson, Umpire; also 14 grandchildren
and 24 great-grandchildren.
