MRS. KATE GERMAN DEAD - Mrs. Kate German, the aged grandmother
of Mrs. George Black, who has been ill with dropsy for about
three months, passed away this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the
home of the latter. Funeral announcement will be made later.

GIBSON, Elmer Lee
Surnames: Gibson, Drury, Sargent
Funeral service for Elmer Lee Gibson, 89-year-old resident of
Board Camp who died Monday, was held Thursday morning at 10:00
a.m. in the Geyer-Quillin Chapel, with Rev. David Heath
officiating. Interment was in the Board Camp cemetery under the
direction of the Geyer-Quillin Funeral Home. Pallbearers were
Noah Medford, Don Craig, Buster Brown, James Looney, Dillard
Hendricks, Aaron Miller and Durward Bryan. Mr. Gibson was born
Feb. 4, 1881, in Texas, and died April 27, 1970, at Mena. He
grew to manhood in Oklahoma and lived there until 1921. In 1921
he moved to Board Camp where he spent the remainder of his life.
He married Nellie B. Gibson in 1926. Besides his wife he is
survived by one son, Louis Gibson, New Orleans, La.; two
daughters, Mrs. Mirtie Drury, Okmulgee, Okla., and Mrs. Dorma
Jean Sargent, Oklahoma City; and nine grandchildren.

"Mrs. E. E. Christopher received word Thursday of the death
of her father, P. T. Gillean, which occurred Tuesday, Nov. 21 at
the home of another daughter, Mrs. J. C. Sumner, at Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Gillean, who was 96 years of age last September, had made a
trip from California to Florida three weeks ago and the long
journey was believed to have overtaxed the nonagenarian's
strength, resulting in his death."

GORDEN, Beulah
Surnames: Gorden, Nash, Miller, Primm, Inlow,

Beulah Idell Gorden, age 97, of Mena, died Thursday, April 1,
1998, in the Rich Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Mena. She was
born June 24, 1900. She was the daughter of the late A. A. Nash
and the late Lara Ellen Miller and was united in marriage to
George Gorden, who preceded her in death on October 8, 1980. She
made her home in Mena all of her life, was of the Methodist
faith, and was a housewife. Survivors are three sons, Bob
Gorden, Buck Gorden and Dennis Gorden; one daughter, Mary Primm;
one sister, Beatrice Inlow; 10 grandchildren; 17 great
grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Arvilla
Gorden, one son, Delbert Gorden, and one grandson, Danny
Walston. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April
3rd, in the Rocky Cemetery with Rev. Max Deaton officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of
Mena. Pallbearers were Bobby Brooks, Jr.; Brad Ashley, Michael
Warren, Brandon Griffiths, Robby Hines, Steve Casey, Danny Smith
and Greg Gorden

GOWEN, Daniel F.
Surnames: Gowen,
Funeral services for Daniel F.Gowen, 82-year-old resident of
Gillham, Ark., were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
Overturf church south of Grannis, with Rev. Ben Allen
officiating. Interment was in the Overturf cemetery under the
direction of the Geyer Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Charlie
Kesterson, Bud Butler, Buck Morris, Sydney Cowan, Howard Reid
and Robert Burns. Mr.Gowen was born April 22, 1869, at
Lockesburg, Ark.,where he grew to manhood. He later moved to
Gillham, where he lived the remainder of his life, serving the
profession of a farmer. He was a member of the Methodist church.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret Stone of Gillham,
Ark.; and one niece, Mrs.H. E. Bounds, of Broken Bow, Okla.

Funeral service for Mrs. Ella Green, wife of William R. Green
of the Watson, Okla., community, who died Friday night at her
home there, was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Watson
with the Rev. Lee Blake of Watson officiating. Burial at Watson
cemetery was directed by the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. The
pallbearers were Clyde Stout, A. L. Minyen, C. M. Humphreys,
Jesse Parnell, Albert Duke and Thomas Brock. Mrs. Green was born
December 26, 1876, at Dardanelle, Ark. She was married to Mr.
Green, September 11, 1895, at Onyx, Ark. and had been living in
the Watson community since 1922. Besides her husband she is
survived by three daughters, Mrs. Artie Parnell, Gould, Okla.,
Mrs. Alfred Smith, Smithville, Okla.; Mrs.John Hahn, Watson,
Okla.,seven sons, Eardy and Gordon Green, Whitesboro, Okla.;
Artie Green, Salem, Ore.; Olaf Green, Rattan, Okla.; Olin Green,
Mt. Hebron, Calif.; Harlin Green, Merrell, Ore.; two brothers,
Otho Whitehead, Watson, Okla; Riley Whitehead, Los Angeles,
Calif.; 52 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren.

ACCIDENTAL DEATH NEAR HATFIELD
A. GRIFFIN'S BODY FOUND ON MR. INGERSOLL'S FARM EAST OF TOWN.
Sheriff Joplin and several other parties just up from Hatfield
report the finding of the body of A. Griffin yesterday forenoon
about 10 oclock, death having been caused by a fall. Mr. Griffin
lives near ex-sheriff Johnson's place, and has several fish
traps on the river. Thursday morning, as is usual, he went to
the traps and did not return during the day. The following
morning a searching party was organized to ascertain the cause
of Mr. Griffin's disappearance and about 10 oclock they found
his dead body on Mr. Ingersoll's place, about a quarter of a
mile from home. Investigations revealed the cause of the fatal
accident. It is supposed that in trying to step over a log, his
foot slipped upon a rock and he fell, his head striking a sharp
pine knot which penetrated his skull two or three inches and
undoubtedly produced death instantly, as from appearances he
never made a struggle after falling. Some claim that deceased
was subject to heart failure or paralysis, which may have
attacked him as he was in the act of stepping over the log. He
is well known in and around Hatfield.
