FORREST, Maudie Leotha Jones
Surnames: Forrest, Jones, Mills Maudie Leotha Jones Forrest, age 85, of Waldron, Arkansas died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, in a Waldron nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and widow of Frank Forrest. She is survived by a son, Ezra Forrest of Mena, AR; sister, Audie Mills of Waldron, AR; two brothers, Fred C. Jones and Marvin Jones, both of Mena, AR; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with interment in Shiloh Cemetery immediatel following the service. Arrangements under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron, Arkansas.

FORTNER, Robert

Funeral service for Robert Fortner, pioneer Polk county resident who died November 26 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G.L. Swaty on north Mena street, was held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist church with the Rev. L.D. Summers, pastor, and the Rev. W.H. Hodges, missionary Baptist minister of Wewoka, Okla., officiating. Burial took place at Buffalo cemetery three miles west of Cove, which cemetery is located on land donated by the deceased for that purpose. Last rites at the grave were in charge of Dallas Lodge No. 128, F. & A. Masons with Paul P. Sanders, past master, officiating. Arrangements were by the Beasley Funeral Home. the pallbearers were all members of the Masonic fraternity of which the deceased had been a member for 45 years, and included C.C. Gibson, Willard Mosely, E.F. Lunsford, Robert Hunter, R.C. Smith and Earnest St. John. Robert Fortner was born at Linden, Moringo county, Alabama, December 16, 1857. He moved with his parents, Lewis and Nancy Hall Fortner, to what is now Webster Parish, La., in December, 1869, and after their death moved to Nevada county where he lived until December, 1879, when he moved to Polk county, where he has made his home for 55 years. He was married to Miss Mary Bell Winton, daughter of R.B. Winton, near Cove March 30, 1882. He homesteaded 160 acres of land and built a home where they lived 40 years. He had been a member of the Baptist church for 60 years. He was past master of the Cove Masonic lodge and was a past chaplain of the lodge in Mena. He had made his home in Mena with his daughter since leaving Cove a nuimber of years ago. He served at one time as deputy sheriff of Polk county. Mr. Fortner is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.B. Sawyer, Wewoka, Okla.; Mrs. W.J. Weatherbee and Mrs. G.L. Swaty, Mena; four sons, H.C. Fortner, Laguna Beaach, Calif.; H.H. Fortner, Prescott, Ariz.; B.H. Fortner, Oatman, Ariz.; W. L. Fortner, Hominy, Okla.; one sister, Miss Lillie Fortner, Prescott; two brothers, L. H. Fortner, Jewell, Ark.; Alex Fortner, Prescott; 24 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 1, 1920.

FOWLER, Lindsay Hugh

Lindsay Hugh Fowler, age 61, resident of North LaJunta, Colorado, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997 at his home. He was born July 23, 1936, in Big Fork, Arkansas, to the late Earl Fowler and the late Elva Hass Fowler. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-57. He also worked as a driller in the oil fields and was a TV repairman. He was united in marriage to Mia L. Curtiss Fowler, July 12, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Survivors include his wife, Mia Fowler, North LaJunta, Colorado; son, Tommy Fowler, Mena, AR; sisters, Geneve Cummings, Gainsville, Tx; Wendy Puryear, Amarillo, TX; Bonnie Lang, Alturas, CA.; Earlene Hughes and Betty Stanchfield, both of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Fowler, Mena, AR. Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Frank Fowler and Al Fowler. Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Big Fork, with Bro. Dardanelle Townsley officiating. Burial followed. Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena in charge of arrangements.
