Lula Marie Abernathy, age 87, of Wichita, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 24 in Wichita Falls. She was born Jan 22, 1911, the daughter of the late Matthew Parker and Ida Mae Rials Parker. She was united in marriage to Hamp Abernathy at Mt. Ida, AR in 1935. Mr. Abernathy passed away in 1964. Born in Mena she made her home in recent years in Wichita, Kansas. She was a retired Nurses Aide and of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include a son, J. W. Lemon; daughters, Wanda Bullins, Patricia Young, and Helen Tarpley; 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and hephews. She was preceded in death by three sons.

Claude Allen Laid To Rest Here

Funeral Services Were Held At Presbyterian Church This Afternoon

Funeral services for the late Claude Allen, who died at Fort Worth, Texas, following a long illness, were held at the First Presbyterian church in Mena Saturday afternoon, the pastor Rev. B. Smallwood presiding. Internment was at Pine Crest Memorial Park beside the mother, who passed away years ago. The Beasley funeral home directed the internment. Pallbearers were D. D. Clements, Henderson Jackson, Oscar Alfred, M.M. Martin, Paul Griffith and H.M. Frederick.

Decedent was a member of the family well known in Mena during division days, and was the son of S. D. Allen. He was 38 years of age and graduated from Mena high school in 1913. He left Mena soon after that and for some years past has been working in the auditor’s office of the Ft. Worth and Denver railroad office at Ft Worth.

He is survived by the following relatives all of whom came to Mena for the burial:

Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Allen, Mr. and Mrs. H .F. Wheeler of Heavener; Mr. and Mrs. O.N. Allen, Mr and Mrs. F.D. Allen and son Floyd Jr., all of Fort Worth, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. V.V. Allen of Heavener; Mrs. Jessie Jackson of Fort Worth, Tex., and Mrs. Jessie French and son Raymond of Mena.

Decedent was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. The remains were accompanied to Mena by S.D. Allen, the father and Floyd Allen a brother. Many friends for Heavener came to Mena to attend the funeral rites.

ALLEN, Jack

Funeral service for Jack Allen, 87-year-old resident of Vandervoort who died Wednesday, Dec. 10, was held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Geyer-Quillin Chapel, with Rev. Harmon Allen officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Geyer-Quillin Funeral Home. Pall bearers were Ben Hunter, Richard Bismark, Bennie Hoyle, Grady Lambert, Charley Daniels and Bus Stevenson. Mr. Allen was born Jan. 16, 1882, at Lockesburg, Ark., and died Dec. 10, at Mena. He grew to manhood at Lockesburg, moving to De Queen in 1901, where he lived until 1905, when he moved to Vandervoort where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cove. He married Lydia May Bell at Vandervoort on Sept. 6, 1908. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Roy and W.O. Allen, both of Mena; three sisters, Mrs. L.B. Cartwright, Mena, Mrs. W.D. Dunagan, Tehachapi, Calif., and Mrs. Arach Benbrooks, Anaheim, Calif.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

ANGLIN, Mrs. Thomas

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary H. Anglin, wife of Thomas Anglin of the Rich Mountian community, who died at her home there Wednesday afternoon, was held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Rich Mountain Community Church with the Rev. M. L.Wallis of Mena officiating. Burial at Eagleton cemetery was directed by the Beasley -Wood Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Terrell Lewis, E.C. Drawver, T.O. Lacefield, John A. Scott, L.E.Davis and B.E.Gilbert. Mrs. Anglin was born May 2, 1868 in Madison county, Ky.where on April 3,1903, she was married to Mr.Anglin. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for the past 45 years. Besides her husband she is survived by five daughters, Mrs.Della Hopewell and Mrs. Elmer Roberts; Stroud,Oklahoma; Mrs.Vicki Anglin, Davenport,Oklahoma; Mrs.Iva Patton, Muskogee,Oklahoma; Mrs.Nannie Eversole, Avery,Oklahoma; two sons, William Anglin, Eagleton; Dave Gentry, Stockton,Calif. 39 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary J. Armer, 71, of Mena, died June 2, 1998 at Mena Medical Center. She was born February 7, 1927, in Van Buren, AR, to the late George Franklin and Sarilda Ella Williams. She was a homemaker and a member of the Northside Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, P.A. Armer. Survivors include four sons: Thomas Earl Armer, IN; Albert Armer, TX; Jim Armer and Donald Armer, both of AR; five daughters, Joy Cogburn, Gay Alvis, Lou Rand, Ann Rostollan and Shirley Loftin, all of AR; two brothers, J. D. Williams of OK and T. M. Williams of CA; one sister, Catherine Johnson of OK; 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Northside Church of Christ with Brother Austin Emery officiating. Interment followed at Corinth Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
