EWELL HOBSON FREEMAN - The Modern News comes to you this week a bit late with a heavy heart but with a fond remembrance of the many, many nice things, acts of kindness and words of sympathy, all of which had made our sudden and shocking sorrow more bearable. "We" as we have said for 27 years must now be changed, or at least for a while to "I". I do not believe that I have to tell you how hard it was to tear up last week's paper in order to print this one. Much of it was his last wordk, some of it I just couldn't and left it standing. Ewell and I grew up in this office as children, our father having started the paper several years before in Nov. 1888. After his school days were completed, he joined my father as a partner in this business, 30 years ago. Three years later I was to join the firm, 17 years ago. That caused the second change in the name of the business. In August, 1934, our heats were heavy, when suddenly we had to give our father up, which caused the third change in the firm name that of Freeman Brothers. Now maybe there is to be another change in the firm name, but it must wait. During these short 27 years we have worked together without no more than two or three minor arguments which lasted only a matter of a few minutes or hours. He was so easy to work with, always agreeable, and many times saying during difficult times "that everything will be alright." It will be hard to give him up, but I will say, I must say, that he is not gone, only away for a while. He [is] survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Freeman; two sons, Charles, who is a student at the University of Arkansas and Robert King of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Fullerton of Little Rock, Miss Patsy, a student in the State Teacher College at Conway and Miss Shirley of the home; two brothers, L.D. of Harrisburg and Orange of Bristol, VA; two sisters, Mrs. R.T. Parks and Mrs. H.D. Severs of Harrisburg and his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Freeman of Harrisburg and a large number of other relatives and friends, who attended the funeral. The burial was in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. The Griffin Funeral Home took care of all detail in a splendid way. Pallbearers were Marshall Simmons, T.T. Mardis, J.F. Winningham, D.A. Newman, Lewis Ainsworth, Billy Weeks, H.T. Garvey, Wm. S. Martin, Jess Baker, all of this city and Fred Berry of Marked Tree.
