Funeral services for Alvin Richard "Buddy" East Sr., 84, of Tyronza, who died Monday at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, were at 2 Wednesday afternoon at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home chapel in West Memphis. Burial was in Tyronza Cemetery. He was a farmer and a member of Tyronza First United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, A.R. "Dickey" East Jr., of Tyronza; one sister, Alma Willoughby of Marked Tree; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
John Jefferson Elliott, 56, died at his home on Speedway Thursday, Aug. 31, after an illness of seven months. Funeral services were conducted at the Pentecostal Church, Friday afternoon, Sep. 1, at 2:30. Rev. Charles Shank officiated. Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery, Jonesboro. Members of the American Legion were pallbearers. Thompson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lavada Elliott; a son, Jake Elliott, U.S. Army, overseas; five nephews, Earl Grant, Detroit, MI; Marion Robertson, Trumann; Virgil and Vernon Robertson, Mobile, AL; and Rabie Grant, Merchant Marine, POW. Mr. Elliott was born Aug. 3, 1888 at Mayfield, KY. He is a WWI Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post at Trumann. He was a retired barber. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church here.
Mr. J.D. Evans was born July 13, 1910 in Sandhill, MS to Mr. & Mrs. Frank Evans. He moved to Judd Hill, Arkansas in 1921 then to Trumann Arkansas in 1979. Mr. Evans confessed religion at the age of 14 in 1924 and became a member of Rising Sun Baptist church. He remained there until his departure on March 18, 1980. In 1927 he was married to Miss Lou Ann Henry. To this couple were born four girls and four boys. He leaves to mourn his wife Mrs. Lou Ann Evans of the home, his mother Mrs. Manervia Evans of Hayti, MO. Their eight children, Bernice Woods of St. Louis MO, Joe Louis Evans of Hartford Conn., Luretha Bowman of Gary, Ind.; Georgia Lavern Evans, Curtis Evans, Lester Lee Evans, Roy Evans & Carol Evans all of Omaha, Nebraska; fifteen grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many friends that shall never forget him. Burial at Judd Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Sylvia Jane Evans, 77, of West Plains, MO, formerly of Harrisburg, died Friday at the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains. Born at Harrisburg, she was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Bentley of West Plains; one son, William Bart Evans of Calico Rock; one brother, Lowell Jordan of Sycamore, IL; two sisters, Eva Marie Miller and Mary Emma Peifer both of Harrisburg and one grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Evans, and by two brothers. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Sullinger officiating. Burial will follow at Bolivar Cemetery near Harrisburg. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Miller, Paul Miller, Barry Jordan, Lloyd Ray Evans, Nolan Ray Evans and Joe Mills. Honorary pallbearers will include Rodger Dale Peifer, Donald Ray Peifer, John David Peifer, Jason Knick, Jimmy Keeney, Bobby Smith, Do Smtih, Henry Smith, Dana Collins, Jess Murray Sr. and Sonny Condra. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. Funeral services for George Bailey Evett, 62, of Harrisburg, who died Monday at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the chapel of Roller-Farmers's Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Kevin Edgar will officiate, with burial to follow in the Tyronza Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Roberson, Jackie Thorn, Duane Duff, Allen Farr, Tom Murry and Sid Shankle. Evett was born in Black Oak and grew up in Tyronza and Marked Tree. He had lived in the Harrisburg area for the past 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Constance Evett of the home; one son, Michael George Evett of Harrisburg; five daughters, Linda Sue Cox and Rhonda Laray Duff of Virginia, Tonya Suzanne Hendley of Virginia Beach, VA, Penny Linn Schaal of Boise, ID and Jamie Lee Bellah of Jonesboro; five brothers, Robert T. Evett Jr. of Houghton Lake, MI, James Harold Evett of Turrell, Eddie Dean Evett of North Webster, IN, Jerry Wayne Evett and Danny R. Evett, both of Harrisburg; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
