Willis Wade Cagle, 40, of Marked Tree, died Wednesday (2-2-2000) at his home. He was an inspector at an office equipment factory. Survivors include one son, Chris Cagle of Horseshoe Bend; one sister, Valerie Blagg of Millington, TN; his stepmother, Bernice Cagle of Marked Tree; one stepsister, Pat Price of Marked Tree; one stepbrother, Junior Helms of Osceola; and two grandsons. Memorial services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 at Marked Tree Cemetery. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree.
Ida Mae Campbell, 97, of Tulsa, OK, formerly of Harrisburg, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at Tulsa. She was born May 7, 1907, the daughter of Charlie and Lottie Lou Oat Neal. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Tilman "Bud" Campbell; two sisters, Carrie Lee Newsom and Katie Lois West; and two grandchildren. Surviving include one son, Tyree Campbell of Gary, IN; two daughters, Juanita Mansker of Tulsa, OK and Ida Lou Johnson of Kansas City, KS; one sister, VeEtta Sproling of Harrisburg; twelve grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26 at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mary Cash officiating. Interment followed at Harrisburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be members of the family.
James Wallace Cannon, 88, of Wynne, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Crestpark Nursing Home in Wynne. Born April 9, 1909, in Fisher, he was the son of the late Joseph Samuel and Etta Mae Gabel Cannon and a member of the Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louella Cornwell Cannon, and three brothers, Isaac, Sam and John Cannon. Surviving are three sons, Joe Cannon of Wynne, Johnny Cannon of Ozark and James Cannon of Memphis; one daughter, Mary Etta Paulk of Savannah, Tenn.; three sisters, Carrie Matthews and Annie Mae Drum, both of Harrisburg, and Nanna Mae Wagner of Trumann; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Lewis Cemetery near Hickory Ridge Tuesday, July 15, with Sherman Cullum officiating. Kernodle Funeral Home of Wynne was in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services for Robert Bankston Cannon, Sr., of the Black Oak Community, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Marked Tree, with Rev. J.A. Womack, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Marked Tree Cemetery. Pallbearers were W.H. Harris, Robert Hughes, M.P. Swepston, Hester Parker, E.T. Pearson and Lonnie Layne. Mr. Cannon, who was 37, was stricken with a heart attack Friday afternoon while on his way home after having taken a bale of cotton to a Marked Tree gin. He returned to Marked Tree to receive treatment and died in the doctor's waiting room. He had lived in this community for ten years and was a well known and respected farmer. He is Survived by his wife Mrs. Robert Cannon; by two children, Robert Bankston Cannon, Jr., and Martha Ray Cannon; by his father, Robert Cannon of Anguilla, MS; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Keith of Anguilla, MS, Mrs. Charles McCord of Marked Tree, Mrs. M.I. Jones and Mrs. M.D. Campbell of Lucy, TN; three brothers, Verna Cannon of Philadelphia, MS, H.W. Cannon of Baton Rouge, LA, and Sylvester Cannon of Anguilla, MS.
Mrs. Betty Sue Cantrell, 68, of Harrisburg died Friday (2-25-2000) at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. Born June 11, 1931 in Darden, TN, to the late Walter & Nonia Moody Mills, she was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include her husband, R.C. A homemaker, she was born in Louisville, KY, and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Harold B. Caplinger, 51, of Harrisburg, died at 12:20 noon Wednesday at Charles Whitney Service Station. He was born in Harrisburg and was a member of the Christian church. Mrs. Lena Pearle Caplinger, 89, a life-long resident of Harrisburg; died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was the widow of A.B. Caplinger, who died in 1938. Born in Harrisburg July 24, 1881, Mrs. Caplinger was the daughter of the late S.G. "Sam" and Ida Goodwin Stone, and a member of the Christian Church. She is survived by two sons, Don S. Caplinger and Gene Caplinger; both of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Dr. Brian Caplinger of Batesville and Mrs. Linda Hutchison of Harrisburg; and six grandchildren, Eric Caplinger, Wade Caplinger, Ingrid Caplinger, Michael Akel, Larkin Akel and Leigh Hutchison. Funeral services were held at 2:00 Sunday fternoon at Jackson Funeral Home chapel with Rev. J. Anthony Holifield officiating. Mrs. Ruby Caplinger, 72, of Harrisburg, wife of Don S. Caplinger, died Friday in Delray Beach, FL. Born February 2, 1911, in Carpenter, MS, she was the daughter of the late Obie and Martha Caraway Morris, who later lived in Marked Tree. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Grand Matron of Arkansas. She was also a member of the Garden Club and a Methodist. Surviving in addition to her husband are one brother; Walter Morris of Shreveport, LA; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille McCulley of Manila, and Mrs. Gladys Kounis of Ketchikan, AK; several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at 2:00 Sunday afternoon at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home chapel with Rev. J. M. Rogers, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial was in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Myrtle Beatrice Carr, 75, of Trumann, died Sunday evening, Nov. 26 at Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro of natural causes. Carr was born in and a lifetime resident of Trumann. She was a homemaker and a member of the Freer Baptist Church in Trumann. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Henry Ford Carr; one grandson, Paul Franks Jr.; three sisters, one brother and was the daughter of the late Felix and Florence Jones Webb. Survivors include two daughters, Emogene Franks Coke of Harrisburg and Carolyn Austin of Trumann; a son, Henry Ford Carr Jr. of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 29 in Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Rev. mark Constant officiating. Burial followed at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro. He was an Army Veteran and was a retired employee of G.E. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie & Clara Carroll and one sister, Lois Stroud. Sudye Lorraine Neal Casaday, 92, of Miami, FL, formerly of Lepanto, died Wednesday at Palace Nursing Home in Miami. A retired school teacher, she was a graduate of Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and a member Berclair Baptist Church in Memphis. Survivors include one son, Joseph Casaday of Miami, and one sister, Elizabeth Lunsford of Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel in Lepanto with Jim Duffel officiating. Burial will be in Potter Memorial Cemetery.
George B. Cash, Tulot merchant, ginner and planter and vice president of the Bank of Trumann, was found dead in the garage of his home near Tulot Wednesday noon, of last week. County Coroner Paul Thompson of Trumann, said Mr. Cash, "apparently suffered a stroke." He said he had previously suffered a stroke. At the time of Mr. Cash's death, Mrs. Cash was visiting in Memphis. Coroner Thompson said Mr. Cash went home Tuesday night about 7 o'clock, and he remarked he was going to work on his car. He was found in the garage of his home by Foster Miller, who lives nearby. Mr. Thompson said the hood of the car was raised and tools were nearby. He said Mr. Cash had evidently opened the door of his car to get a flashlight. A flashlight was lying on the floor of the car. Mr. Cash and his sister, Mrs. Clifford Purvis, operated the vast Tulot Plantation near Trumann, including a general store and cotton gin. He was born in Trumann and lived there his entire life, except for ten years in Detroit. He was well known citizen of this County, a veteran of World War I, member of the Trumann Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. J. A. Cash, well known pioneer citizens of Trumann. In addition to his sister, he is survived by his wife, and one son, J. A. Cash of Trumann. Funeral serices were held at Faith Baptist Church in Tulot on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. H. J. Couchman, pastor of the Methodist Church of Marked Tree, assisted by Rev. Arvill Brannan, pastor of the Trumann Methodist Church officiating. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside. Burial was in the Memorial Park at Jonesboro, with Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann in charge.

She was preceded in death by three brothers. Ernestine Ferrier Chapin, 71, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, at St. Bernard's Regional MedicalmCenter in Jonesboro. Chapin was born in Jefferson City, MO and lived most of her life in the Trumann area. She was a retired school teacher and river boat cook; honorary member of the Arkansas Assessors Association; a clerk at the Poinsett County Assessors office; past member of the Twentieth Century Club and the Poinsettia Club of Trumann. Chapin was of the Christian Science faith.

Booker Childs was born August 24, 1919 in Shoffner, Arkansas to the late Mary Lee Hamby. Booker's loving wife Catherine preceded him in death. Booker lived most of his adult life in Chicago, Illinois until moving to the Trumann, Arkansas in 1971. He lived in Jonesboro for the past two years. Booker was in the U.S. Navy and a World war 11 Veteran. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He leaves to cherish his memory his cousins Cassie McClendon of Detroit, Michigan, Willie E. Mrs. Mary Clark, 63, died at her residence on Route 1, Harrisburg, Saturday night, December 6, at 8:45 following a long illness resulting from Pneumonia. Gladys Eva Cooper, 84, of Cherry Valley, died Friday, April 16, 1996, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center at Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born March 16, 1912, at Porum, OK, the daughter of the late William Arthur Long and Lula Mae Rooks Long. KILLS MATE, SHOOTS SELF-Mrs. Maggie James Cooper, 35, killed her husband, Daniel Obediah Cooper, then committed suicide at their tent home near Cherry Valley Sunday night, county officers said Monday. Deputy Sheriff Rudolph Clements of Cherry Valley, who investigated, said Mrs. Cooper shot her husband twice with a .32 caliber pistol, and then a few minutes later fired one shot into her heart. The cause was said to have been family trouble. The couple lived in a tent at a logging camp near the St. Francis Bay. A man living in a nearby tent heard the first two shots and rushed into the tent. He told officers that Mrs. Cooper put the gun in his face and ordered him to leave or get shot. He quoted the woman as saying that she had killed her husband and that she intended to take own life. The man walked out of the tent and a few minutes later she fired the shot that ended her life. Maggie James Cooper and Daniel Obediah Cooper are buried in Tyer Cemetery near Cherry Valley.
Matthew J. "Buster" Cooper, 77, Cherry Valley, died Friday at Geriatrics Nursing Center of Jonesboro. Born in Cherry Valley. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beulah Hodges Cooper of the home; two sons, Billy Ray Cooper and Andrew Cooper, both of Cherry Valley; three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Shoemaker, Mrs. Dorothy Riley and Mrs. Emma Bouland, all of Cherry Valley; one brother, Isaac "Pete" Cooper of Clearwater, FL; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan, St. Louis, MO, Mrs. Addie Bailes and Mrs. Etta Bell Smith, both of Cash; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 in the chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home with Troy Farr officiating. Burial will be in the Tyer Cemetery under the direction of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home.
Mr. Robie O. Cooper a lifetime resident of Cherry Valley, AR departed this life on Friday, March 26, 1993 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR at the age of 81. Mr. Cooper was born October 10, 1911 in Cherry Valley, the son of Erastus F. and Josie Mae Woodham Cooper Hogon. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Margaret Greenwood Cooper of Cherry Valley, one son, Arnold Cooper of Jonesboro, AR and two daughters Jerelene Cobb of Arab, AL and Julie Mae Bridges of Harrisburg, AR, one sister Irene Kitchens of Moscow, TN, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Buried in Tyer Cemetery.
Wallace Leroy Cooper, 86, of Rt. 1, Parkin, died Wednesday, April 16, at the Cross County Hospital. Born February 29, 1892, he was a retired farmer and Baptist. He is survived by 3 sons, Billy Paul Cooper of Cherry Valley; Eugene Cooper of Iuka, MS; and Odell Cooper of St. Charles, MO; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Whitehead of Parkin; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Services were held at Lebanon Baptist Church, in Whitehall, Friday, April 28th with burial at Tyer Cemetery in Cherry Valley, the Rev. Hulett Kidd of Togo, officiated.
Aftin Copeland, 68, of Brinkley, formerly of Trumann, died Monday at CLA-CLIF Nursing and Rehab Center. Born at Alco, he was a farmer and had moved to Brinkley eight years ago, where he was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother, Larry Harlain Copeland of Jonesboro, and a sister, Mary Crain of Brinkley. Graveside services will be this afternoon at 2 in Willis Cemetery in Harrisburg, with Rev. Gerald Couch, 67, of Rivervale, died Monday evening (7-16-2000) at his residence. A longtime resident of the Caraway and Rivervale area, he was a retired farmer, a member of The New Hope Baptist Church and Caraway Masonic Lodge No. 733, and was a Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Judy Couch of the home; three sons, Randy Couch, Fred Couch and Terry Couch, all of Caraway; one stepdaughter, Melisa Clevenger of Denver, CO; one stepson, Brit Reed of Denver, CO; one sister, Teresa Morgan of Rivervale; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She lived in Harrisburg for more than 50 years, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Harrisburg. Survivors include two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gladys "Louise" Counce, 80, of Marked Tree died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Counce was born January 23, 1924 to James Noah Brown and Virgie Virginia Downs Brown, in Deatsville, AL. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Counce. Mrs. Ahra Lou Cox, 83, of Harrisburg, died Friday at the Regional Medical Center of NEA. Born at Corinth, MS, she was a homemaker and a Baptist. Mrs. Cox was the daughter of the late William and Jennie Pervin Hearn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wesley Cox, and by one son, Darrell Cox. Carlos R. Crouch, 84, of Harrisburg, died Tuesday at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Mayfield, KY, he moved to Harrisburg in 1953 and was the owner and operator of Harrisburg Auto Clinic until he retired. He was a volunteer fireman and fire chief for Harrisburg for more than 25 years and a member of the Harrisburg First Baptist Church for approximately 50 years, serving as a deacon, chairman of deacons, Sunday School superintendent and a member of the House and Grounds Committee. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a Mason and a member of the Harrisburg Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife, Naomi (Scoggin) Crouch of the home; three sons, Don Crouch, Gene Crouch and Dickey Crouch, all of Harrisburg; one sister, Iva Lee Scoggin of Orange Park, FL; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and two grandchildren. George Thomas Crowell, 82, of Marked Tree, died Saturday at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. A former Marked Tree mayor, he served as city clerk for 47 years. He was a WWII Navy veteran, a member of the Rotary Club, the initial organizer of Little League in Marked Tree and a longtime American Legion baseball coach. Survivors include one daughter, Tommye Crowell Chandler of Marked Tree; one son, John Crowell of Columbus, MS; two sisters, Hilda Smythe and Jimmy Ruth Gooding, both of Louisville, MS; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Miss Elizabeth Ann Crozier, 96, of 401 Carlson St., Trumann, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the family residence in Trumann. Miss Crozier was born in Wickliffe, KY, May 26, 1903, to the late Joseph Alvin & Mary Agnes McDonald Crozier Sr. She had lived in Trumann since 1968 and was formerly of Cairo, IL, where she taught high school for 45 years. She taught in the Trumann School System form 1968 until 1980. She was the past president of the Illinois Pulaski Co. Teachers Assoc., the Mound City Junior Woman's Club, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Trumann Twentieth Century Club. Miss Crozier was of the Episcopal faith and she attended the First United Methodist Church in Trumann. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Crozier, Frank Crozier and Fred Crozier Coleman; two sisters, Mary Crozier and Irene Crozier Herzfeldt and her parents. Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Dorothy Crozier Wright of Dallas, Mrs. Denise Colman Postell of Florida and Mrs. Catherine Coleman; seven nephews, Joe Crozier Jr. of Memphis, Hollis Crozier of Kappa Kauai, Hawaii, Alfred Crozier of Houston, TX, Joe Bruce Crozier of Kensington, MD, Fred Crozier Coleman of Puducah, KY, Mike Coleman of NC, and Donald Crozier Herzfeldt of Sheboyhan, WI; nine great nieces, 11 great nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews. He was an Army veteran, had worked as a maintenance technician for the Singer Co. and was a Baptist. Survivors include three sons, James Cunningham, Gary Cunningham and Jerry Cunningham, all of Bay; two sisters, Ruby Propes of Jonesboro and Imogene Muse of Trumann; and three grandchildren, Wesley Cunningham and Wade Cunningham, both of Trumann, and Angela Taylor Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ann Cunningham; his parents, Grover Cleveland and Myrtel May Kirby Cunningham; one brother, and one sister. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro, with Gary Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery near Harrisburg. Active pallbearers will include Chall Hill, Odell Everhart, Ronnie Everhart, Bill Hickman, Buddy Cox and Gerald Benson. Honorary pallbearers will include Lowell Brooks and Delbert Loggins. He graduated from a vocational school, was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII and spent most of his life in Weiner. Survivors include his wife, Edna Curell of the home; four daughters, Dorothy Lee of Pensacola, FL, Carolyn Rigali of Dallas, TX, Gloria Cole of Carlisle and Ann Guffey of Belton, MO; three stepsons, James Paul George of Beaumont, TX, Eugene George of Dayton, TX, and Charles Russell of Jonesboro; three stepdaughters, Ann Guffey of Belton, Rebecca Smith and Gloria Cole of Carlisle; 27 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three stepsons. The family asks that memorials be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery fund.
