Information in the 1840 Federal Census includes head of the household name, number of free white males and females by age group, number of free colored males and females by age group, number of persons in each family employed in mining, commerce, manufacturing and trades, etc., pensioners for Revolutionary War or military services, schools, and the number of persons over 20 who can't read or write.
John D, Chandlers resident of Hot Springs County
performed the duties presented by the Act of Congress to provide for taking the
Sixth Census or Enumeration of the Inhabitants of the Untied States and for
other purposes and took and in my presence subscribed the above oath. J. Phillips
J.P. Thirty day of October 1840. Arkansas was admitted to the Union in 1836.
Montgomery County was formed in 1842 from Hot Spring County townships: Sulphur Springs, Mountain and Caddo Cove.
