I have recently received several pages from OBU concerning the Caddo River
Baptist Association meeting from 1867 to 1900. I will be posting the names
mentioned in these reports from time to time. All Names I have available will
be posted. Some of the text is very hard to read as these are photo copies of
the originals. If something looks familiar let me know and maybe we can
decipher the name. As best as I can understand these churches belonged to this
association and met once a year. Shelia
In case any of you live or get to Mt. Ida, AR. I donated these records to the [Heritage House] museum there. Some of the first years are copies of the original hand writing which was very interesting to me. I also had records for the Pike Co. Baptist Association which I sent to Morris Meyers which he will be posting on his website a little later. I do hope you enjoy these as much as I have. Sincerely Sheila
Post # 17 1881. 9/9/1999, 3:28:32 PM
Note: This is half way through the years I have. We have 17 more years to cover.
I hope someone is getting some good out of these as there is a lot of names.
Please feel free to share these with whom ever you might feel could use them. At
the end of these post I would like to post an actual report from these so
everyone can see the writing and the language they used. I have to check with
the list master to see if it would be okay. Some of the next post do have some
obituaries in them. If any one who has been following these post has the first
one for 1867 that
is dated would you sent it back to me I didn't keep a dated copy of it. Happy
Hunting everyone Sheila.

Note: This is half way through the years I have. We have 17 more years to
cover. I hope someone is getting some good out of these as there is a lot of
names. Please feel free to share these with whom ever you might feel could use
them. At the end of these post I would like to post an actual report from these
so everyone can see the writing and the language they used. I have to check with
the list master to see if it would be okay. Some of the next post do have some
obituaries in them. If any one who has been following these post has the first
one for 1867 that is dated would you sent it back to me I didn't keep a dated
copy of it. Happy Hunting everyone Sheila

Obituary Report.
Since our last meeting, the Lord has called from his earthly labors our beloved
Elder H. M. Wilkinson, who served as Moderator of our association for two years
in 1881 and 1882.
Brother Wilkinson was born in Greenville, South Carolina,
September 12, 1820 and died in Montgomery Co. Arkansas August
25, 1884. He had been a Baptist for over forty years and a minister in the
Baptist faith for about thirty-seven years. His parents emigrated to the United
States from Whales and were of the old stock Baptist, of historic times. Brother
Wilkinson inherited the principals of that ancient stock in high degree, being
in the fullest sense of the term a Baptist, bold for the truth, uncompromising
with error and ever ready for the good word and work. Brother Wilkinson leaves a
companion and five children at home, (and several who are grown and have
families) to morn their loss. The family has lost a kind husband and father. The
neighborhood an
excellent and beloved physician. The church, one of its purest and trusted
members. The Masonic fraternity, one of its most devoted and worth brethren and
the Baptist will miss, oh sadly miss, his wise counsel, his earnest preaching
and his untiring energy and self-sacrificing efforts to advance the Master's
cause. Truly, a good man has passed away. We humbly and submissively, though
sadly, bow to the Master's will knowing that he doeth all things well.

Obituary of Elder John Neighbors.
It has pleased out Heavenly Father to call our beloved and much esteemed
brother, Elder John Neighbors, from his labors to a place of rest. Brother
Neighbors was born in Carroll County, Tennessee March 8th , 1835. He moved to
Clark co., Arkansas in 1845. He embraced a hope in Christ in October of 1852. He
joined the Baptist Church July 3rd, 1853. He was licensed
to preach March 1st, 1862 by Bethel Baptist Church. He was ordained to the full
work of the ministry October 10th, 1886 by Bethel Church. He died February 9th,
1885. Brother Neighbors was a man of usefulness in the community in which he
lived. He served as pastor of churches for several years. He served as church
clerk for sixteen years. In the death of Brother Neighbors the family has lost a
kind husband and father, the neighborhood and excellent and beloved citizen. The
church has lost one of its purest, albest and trustiest members, and we miss his
wise council, earnest preaching and untiring energy to advance the Master's
cause. Truly a good man has fallen. We humbly and submissively, though sadly,
bow to the Master's will, knowing that He doeth all things well. John M. Smith,
J. J. Hughes and A. F. Wilson.

Sister Sarah E. Johnson, wife of G. W. D. Johnson and daughter of Hamilton L.
and Rachel E. Wasson, born January 26, 1853, and departed this life December 7,
1890. For many years she had been a worker in her Lord's vineyard, in prayer and
exhortation.
She died fully resigned to her master's will,
She rejoiced through faith in His promises,
Oh how sweet to know the Lord,
And rest our faith in his word;
I know my own he doth say,
They know me while on the way.
Bro. W. J. Kennedy of Valley Grove departed this life June26, 1891. His precise
age is not know to this writer; but he was between 70 and 75 years of age. He
was elected President of the Sunday School Convention about ten years ago and
remained so with punctuality and zeal until his death. His loss was mourned by
hundreds of children and adults of the entire association. His place can hardly
be filled rendering the same satisfaction. We never heard aught against his
Christian character and we expect that he will be bountifully rewarded when the
Savior comes for His own. The good old man's life has been grandly great because
it has been spent in the service of his God. He has passed under the rod but in
the midst of shadows he found sunshine. The waves have rolled high around him
but the voice of the Lord was often heard upon the troubled waters. His bow of
promises has ever rested upon the over arching clouds, radiant with future hope,
reaching across the valley of sin and sorrow into the land of light and
life. God has given him long life and made him spiritually fruitful even in his
old age. Kind father, rest in sweet repose until our Lord shall bid thee rise.
And so shall all the redeemed in Christ meet the Savior in the skies. Amen. By:
