BLESSING, BURKHARDT, ODELL, POWEL, SMITH, SOUTHWORTH, TWILLEY posted by Robin Wallace & Jay Shore on Tuesday, October 21, 2003

I would appreciate your adding TWILLEY to the Monroe Co. Surname list. We had several persons there in the mid 1800's. I would very much like to connect with anyone researching them or their collateral lines. BLESSING, BURKHARDT,SMITH, POWEL, ODELL, SOUTHWORTH.

Thank You,
Robin Wallace & Jay Shore

1860 Monroe Co. Ark., Duncan Twp. Dwelling #271

Magdalena Blessing, 56, female, farming, born in Baden, Germany

Josephine Burkhardt, 14, female, born in Arkansas

Francis Burkhardt, 12, male, born in Arkansas

MARRIAGE Monroe Co., Arkansas

BLESSING, Henry____ to Mary Magdalena_____________ (no maiden name) by J.J. Cowart MG M E Ch May, 22, 1851.

It MAY be that Mary Magadline's maiden name was BURKHARDT/BURKHART OR she could be the Mary M. GOSS, age 45 born Germany on the 1850 Monroe Co., Ark., Census. She has Adaline Burkhart living with her on this 1850 census. # 231-145 and next door is Theresa WELENWRITTER age 56, born Germany with Nancy A. Burkhart age 2. There is a difference in Mary M. age, but that is not unusual on censuses.

Adaline Burkhart married Wm. Grimes and I have traced her to 1860 Independence Co. Ark then to 1870 Texas, loose them after 1880. (her name is Mary Adaline)

Nancy A. Burkhart married Joseph Smith (Independence Co. Ark.) and she became the mother in law to my Maggie Etta (SOUTHWORTH/Martin) SMITH in Sandtown, Ark. Her name is Nancy Ann. She is on the 1860 Independence Co. census with my Telitha(Powel/Twilley) Odell family. Then she marries Joseph Smith. They are both buried in Lees Chapel Cemetery in Sandtown, Indep. Co. Ark. as is Maggie Etta (SOUTHWORTH/Martin) SMITH and husband "Pete" Theodore SMITH.

3 doors down on the same 1850 census is my Telitha TWILLEY, age 28 with 4 year old Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY. (census has it spelled TWITTLEY) BUT IT IS DEFINITELYTWILLEY)

4 doors down on the same 1850 census is Mary Lewis (I believe she is Telitha (Powel) TWILLEY's mother. Living with her is William E. Burkhardt age 10 and Francis E. Burkhardt age 2. born Ark. Believe this is the 12 year old listed with the Blessing in 1860 Monroe Co. Ark.

I do not know just which one Josephine Burkhardt belongs to as the given name Josephine is not on the 1850 census.

1850 Monroe Co., Ark

Joseph TWILLEY age 17 born Louisiana with the Wm McBride family. Joseph W. TWILLEY marries 2 times in th 1850s in Monroe Co., Ark (Joseph Washington TWILLEY age 21 to Giney McNanny Williams age 17 03/05/1854 and Joseph TWILLEY to Avisa Langley 02/19/1857) Robert TWILLEY age 23 br Miss. living with Robert Stevens, wife Isabelle age 26 (she is born Miss too) family. Robert TWILLEY age 25 married Hipsey Davenport age 15, 09/07/1851 in Monroe Co. Ark... where did he go?

My Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY age 4 br Ark. with his Mother, Telitha TWILLEY age 29 br Ala.

IS this Joseph TWILLEY age 17 in 1850 Monroe Co. census the same Joseph Washington TWILLEY that married 2 times in the 1850s in Monroe Co????

William G. TWILLEY's wife Martha (probate 1848) after he has died, Martha C. Twilley age 26 married Oct 15, 1853 to James A. McMullins age 29 in Monroe Co. they are on the 1860 Monroe Co census, with two children ages 4 & 6 in 1860 so they cannot be children of William G. TWILLEY and Martha C. (Twilley) McMullins as they are too young to be William G. TWILLEY's children. I have not found Martha C. Twilley on the 1850 census in Monroe Co. Ark

. You will notice all of the TWILLEY's age on the 1850 census are in their 20s and one in his teens, except Marcus D.L. TWILLEY (4 years old) ODD.

Joseph TWILLEY age 32 br Ala. living in 1860 with the Jas Oates family.

Joseph W. TWILEY 1861 in Independence Co marries Matilda Jane (Turner) Cain.
Where is Robert and Hispey TWILLEY IN 1860? (she is with her parents on the 1850 Monroe Co. census.)
My Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY living with his mother and step father and guardian, Jeremiah ODELL in 1860 as is Nancy Ann Burkhart. My Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY marries in Jan 17, 1869 to Harriett Rebecca MARSHALL

1870 Independence Co.

Joseph W. Twilley and wife Matilda Jane and family.
No Robert TWILLEY

My Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY is on the 1870 Polk Co., Benton Twp Missouri census with his wife Harriet and a Tabitha ODELL (AGE 48) I believe this is actually Telitha ODELL, Mother of Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY. Telitha (Powel/TWILLEY) ODELL DISAPPEARS after this census. I have not found anything on her after this 1870 Missouri census. I have been to this Polk County and surrounding counties searching the records and found nothing!

1880 Independence Co.

Marcus de Lafayette TWILLEY, wife Harriett and family. (after a wagon train from Independence, Missouri to the Waco, Texas area, he left the wagon train in this area and returned to Independence Co. Ark. by the 1880 census.

RUDKIN posted by Mary Corley Ware on Tuesday, October 21, 2003

I am searching for my great grandfather John RUDKIN. According to his Civil War pension record, he was living in Monroe County in 1873 with wife Sarah. Sarah died in June 1873. My grandfather, John Thomas was born in 1873 (don't have month or day). Sarah may have died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. He was in the Cleveland County 1880 Census with second wife and son John Thomas.
