I was wondering where in Monroe County, Surrounded Hill Township was. I see that it isn't there in 1930, but was quite large in the census of 1850. I am descended from Wm. CASTLE and his mother, Harriet WELCH CASTLE ELKINS. Thank you.

ANDERS, ANDREWS, COOPER, HOLMAN, HOLMUN, LINDSEY, MCLAIN posted by Audrey Williams Stanaland on Monday, January 20, 2003

Has anybody come across a Benson G. COOPER who owned a farm about 3 miles below Brinkley, AR where he died in 1863? He had a brother, Dillard COOPER, but he also had a son, Dillard L. COOPER who I think is the same Dillard that married a Parthenia (several spellings). A Dillard L. COOPER, born 1839 (one year off from our bible records which show 1838) appears on several family trees. He was from South Carolina and married to Delphia LINDSEY and would have arrived in the Monroe County area sometime after the birth of a son John W. born in SC in 1843 and the birth of a daughter Emelita born in Ark, born 1846--and would have remained in the area until his death in 1863. I will be happy to have any info, evidence of death in Monroe County and especially some land records in Monroe County. I found the family on the 1850 census in Arkansas, St. Francis, Richland 2, but they apparently owned a farm about 3 miles from Brinkley at the time of his 1863 death. This is I am almost positive my COOPER family from the Brinkley, AR area Past Known Info: . All I have known is that my great-great grandmother Parthenia (Partheny, Parnelia, Berthena, etc) ANDERS/ANDREWS HOLMAN , b about 1806 in Wilkes Co, GA, married in Aug. 1876 a Dillard L. COOPER, born about 1838, and died from pneumonia after fighting a fire on his farm near Brinkley. Dillard and Parthenia lived on a farm in Brinkley and had a child named Clara, born July 21, 1878, (died 3/15/79 in AR) who married (his 2nd marriage) in 1998 a William David MC LAIN, born 1857 in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence, AR and died 1921 in Newport, AR. I have found several family trees online with a Dillard L. COOPER, born 1839, Spartanburg, SC, son of Benson G. COOPER, born 1813, Spartanburg, SC, who died on his farm about 3 miles below Brinkley, Monroe CO., ARK in 1863. This Benson G. COOPER, married to Delphy (Delphia, Delphie) LINDSEY, born 1812 in South Carolina and died in 1860. Their son, Dillard L., was their oldest son and would, therefore, have been the natural heir to their property. Benson and Delphia's children were: Cordelia COOPER, b 1833, South Carolina Julia E. COOPER, b 1836, South Carolina *Dillard L. COOPER, born 1839, South Carolina (I think, my great-great grandfather, married to Parthenia *see above) John W. COOPER, born 1843, South Carolina Emelita COOPER, born 1846, Arkansas Benson H. COOPER, born 1849, Arkansas; died Dec. 28, Logan County, Arkansas

DICKSON, RAY, WRAY, WYATT posted by Becky Dickson on Tuesday, March 25, 2003

In about 1947 Samira "Mira" (WRAY/RAY) DICKSON was laid to rest in a cemetery remembered as being south of Keevil and then east. They had to park on the road and walk through the brush with the casket to get to the cemetery. Does anyone know which cemetery this is, and can directions be given with distinctive landmarks so that we can find it? Mira was married in Monroe County in 1892 to Thomas Andrew DICKSON. We don't know where he is buried but believe him to be buried in the same vicinity. His parents were also married in Monroe County in 1868 and it is believed that they are also buried in the vicinity. Their names were John Paul DICKSON and Nancy C. (WYATT). If anyone knows anything about these people I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.
