Many of the Mosleys, Howards, Motleys & Ameys married into these families between 1873-1956. Some of theses families of Americans of African Heritage came to the Tri-State area of Texarkana when it was still Unincorporated.
The Mosley family also grew-up on Laurel Street in Texarkana, Arkansas and knew Scott Joplin's ("Mr. Ragtimes") family well. My Great-Great Uncles Frank Mosley and Mott H. Mosley I both knew Scott Joplin as small children and often saw him when Joplin visited Texarkana.
Sallie (Howard) Mosley and Alexander H. Mosley helped to found Cannon Baptist Church on 1008 Laurel Street (Texarkana, Arkansas) in 1880. Their Grandson Mott Harold Mosley II became Paster of the Church in the 1940's. Shortly thereafter, he also became Principal/Administrator of Booker T. Washington High School. In 1986/87 the City celebrated a day in Uncle Mott's honor for his dedication to Education/Community in Texarkana, Arkansas.
