Due to the death of her mother when Charlotte was only 17 days old, she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Alma Spaulding Byers and Samuel Otis Nicholas Sr. She attended Peabody Elementary School, East Side and Forest Heights Junior High Schools, and went to Central High and Hall High (The Lost Class of 1959). She was a Steverino on "Steve's Show" and graduated from Mabelvale High School in 1959, and went to Clayton's School of Beauty Cosmetology, then owning and operating Charlotte's Hair Fashions.

Three siblings preceded her in death, Betty Ann Brabender, Brenda Michael and Otis Curlee Jr. In 1979 she began genealogy research for their families, and had the Pulaski, Saline, and Grant County genealogy websites online. She transcribed many cemeteries and took photos of the gravestones, putting the trascriptions on the county pages to help with other's research. She also wrote two books, one being about Salem Cemetery and the other concerning East End, Landmark and Sardis Communities.
Cancer was found in June 2014 and she bravely fought it through technology at CARTI with Oncologist Dr. Jamie Burton and Teresa and Pat and Pulmonary Dr. Eyad Abochale and his nurse Lindsey.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Salem Cemetery in the East End Community, on Arch Street in Saline County. There will be no visitation.
