MEET
MANERVA HENSON TABOR & FRANKLIN AUGUSTUS LOWERY
Submitted by: Jimmy L. Mitchell (Converse, TX) (jimmyl@texas.net)

Manerva Henson Tabor (10 Oct 1848-1917) & Franklin Augustus Lowery (16 Sep 1849-9 Jun 1924). Photo about 1910. Married about 1870 in Marion County, five children (my grandmother was No. 2 - Sarah Evaline Jane Lowery who later married J. A. M. Stonecipher). The Lowerys are buried in Jefferson Hall Cemetery, Marion Co. LDS records indicate Franklin Augustus was born in Marion County, but census records suggest he and six brothers were born in Lafayette County, Mississippi. Probate records (Lawrence Co, AR - 13 Apr 1857) records indicate that his parents were both deceased, and at age 8 he was indentured (apprenticed) along with his brother Levi G. (age 10) to Enoch & Melissa Saftley. Family verbal tradition indicates Franklin "was an extraordinary wood craftsman" - he built furniture, wagons, carvings, etc which "were fantastic". Manerva Henson Tabor was born in Marion County; thought to be daughter of the early pioneer, John Tabor (who may have been part Cherokee?).

Doesn't anyone have a photo of John Tabor or his family? Jimmy
