Submitted by: Sheryl Unrath (pixiemom101@yahoo.com)

Dividing Line

This photo is Marvin and Dennis Estes, sons of William and Julia Covington Estes. The funeral notes from the Mt. Echo says: "Dennis was born in Yellville April 24, 1894 and spent all of his life here until Sept. 19, 1917, when he entered the U.S. Army. He received his training at Camp Pike and Camp Beauregard, and on June 8th 1918, he started overseas with the June Automatic replacements. After he landed he was placed in Co. M, of the Seventh Infantry and was sent to the front shortly afterwards.

He was killed in the battle of Chateau Thiery on July 17, 1918.

His brother Marvin, who went overseas just two weeks after Dennis did, was badly wounded in the same battle the day after Dennis was killed, and is still partly disabled as a result of the wounds."
