Eli Dodson, Jr. Family Cemetery

Eli Dodson, Jr. New Headstone

Eli Dodson Cemetery is located on the old Bob Berry place in Yellville Arkansas. Eli Dodson owned the farm in 1860s-70s. totally destroyed by 1988 but the cemetery is still there in back of a red barn.

Directions to the Cemetery from Yellville, Marion Co., Arkansas

Begin in Yellville and take highway 14 toward Marshall. A couple of miles outside of Yellville there is a sign on the left for a subdivision and I think it is called Mill Creek, but not for sure, anyway, turn left there and follow the paved road. The place that the cemetery is on is the old Billy Joe Purdom place and is owned by Forrest Wood's daughter and her husband now. (His first name is Kirk and his mother used to be the circuit clerk there in Marion County, but I can't remember their last name.) It is on the left side of the road and there is a gate into a barn. The cemetery is behind the house and there is a big flat bottom along crooked creek, it is fenced and there is a sign on the fence that says Eli Dodson Family Cemetery.

This is the new head stone that a 3rd great grand daughter, Martha Wilson, got for Eli Dodson, Jr. The first one was taken down when they thought a dam was going in at Mountain Home, Arkansas. A Mr. Bob Cecil took the original head stone for safe keeping and never put it back. (so my grandmother says,(Arria V. Dees Cone)). We do know that it was over 7 foot tall and had four sides and went to a point. On the left side it said first wife Rhoda Caroline, on the backside it said second wife Sarah, on the right side it said third wife Mary Catherine and on the front was Eli Dodson, Jr. There are several children and grandchildren buried there too, some with no head stone, and others with just rocks for head stones.
