Back in the olden days most men wore guns, they even buckled on their pistols to get ready to go to church, Gladys told me about her father JOHN HENRY HARRIS, when GUY (her brother) JOHN & MARTHA'S  first baby was just a young  lad, her Dad was waiting for her mother MARTHA JANE to get ready for church, Guy wanted to get down, so his Dad, (JOHN HENRY) took out his six shooter and let Guy play with it while still in Dads arms. Guy pulled the trigger and shot right thorough the ceiling, of course it scared both Mom & Dad to think what could have happen and there was no more playing with dads gun.

Mom & Dad were both very young then, they married at age 17 years old, so they didn't have very good judgement about that sort of thing, but they were fast learners, Dad
always put his six shooter in his toolbox and locked it up after that.

JOHN HENRY HARRIS shot a man at a picnic this is how we have heard it, one of John's daughters JOHNNIE FERN, she goes by the name FERN, well she was at the picnic and this man said a bad word to her, when she got home she told her Dad, he was furious, he took off to the picnic to find the man and beat him up, well he did, but some brothers or friends came after JOHN HENRY with baseball bats, so JOHN HENRY shot one of the men in the leg.

GUY RITCHIE HARRIS married CHARLOTTE PERKINS, she had a sister who was arround 14 or 15 years old, well this friend CLAUD TURNER was carrying on with the yong girl and he got her pregnant, he told her brother to say that he was the one responsible for this, anyway it all came out and because the young girl was under age, CLAUD TURNER was taken to court.

Guy and Charlotte testified at court, the went home. Claud got drunk and headed for Guy's house with a gun, he said he was going to kill all the PERKINS family, Guy saw him coming, so he grabbed his gun from the rack, with his right hand and put it in his left pocket and him being left handed, went out to the gate, he put his left hand on the gate, while CLAUD TURNER walked up, he went to pull his gun out at Guy and Guy pulled out his gun and emptied his gun out at him  and killed him. There was an investigation on the incident, but it was found to be that Guy acted in self defence, the young girl had her baby and she kept the baby.
