History of the Ring Name
Submitted by: Susan Fahnstrom

The RING'S came from England in the 1600's to Maryland in America.  The RING name in England was first found in the County of Norfolk and its roots go back to the Norman's that were from Northern France, the province of Normandy. Normans came from the Viking word Norsemen, the Norsemen were the Vikings raiders, that came from Norway and Sweden, they raided and plundered the shores of England for many years, some settled and lived in England and intermarried with the English.

The RING family name is from England and Ireland, in Ireland the Ring name was first found in Leitrim and from Irish origin back to the year 1100, there is a family shield. There are some other lines that came from Holland and the name Ring is very common in Denmark and Norway. Its a strong possibility that the name Ring orignated from the city of RINGERIKE in Norway, some say that Sigurd Ring was the King there.

The Norwegian descent originated from the tradition of a family taking the name of their farm from which they live on as their surname.
